Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

WIRE, The - TV Shows
Just watched this entire series over the summer - hands down one of the best TV shows, ever. The writing and acting were so amazing. Every episode was like a movie. I enjoyed the fact they changed the investigations/focus by season and you never knew what was coming next. I never felt like it was predictable. And come on, Omar is easily one of the best characters ever made. Just great all around. I love when I catch the actors from the Wire on other series, they all deserve as much airtime as they can get. -- Submitted By: (elizacron) on August 9, 2010, 10:35 am

Office, The - TV Shows
If the debacle that was last season didn't tip me off that this show was near the boning point, the announcement from Steve Carell that he intends to leave the show after the seventh season does. It's obvious the best storylines have been done already and that the writers are scrapping up whatever they can find. The Sabre merger, Kathy Bates, Jim and Pam becoming domesticated, Andy and Erin's on again-off again relationship, Dwight going from an annoying kiss ass to a gross slut, Ryan turning emo and strange... I think the writers could take the opportunity to use the season to tie up all the storylines, give some closure, let Steve Carell go from TV and movies to movies only on a high note, and end the show before it definitely bones. In all likelihood, they won't do that and the show will end up going on for too long. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 8, 2010, 3:06 pm

Spyro the Dragon (video game series) - Random Topics
I'm inclined to agree that after the original trilogy, the Spyro series went downhill. Enter the Dragonfly was a bug-ridden piece of trash (tons of visual glitches, long load times, and a story that seemed like it was thrown together 5 minutes before the deadline), A Hero's Tail was a bit better, and after that...just don't know. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on August 8, 2010, 9:32 am

I love this guy's show, too. Unfortunately, he's kind of hinted that he's getting burned out with the whole thing and has dropped down to one show a month. Rude Customers - Random Topics
There are customers who totally abuse the "customer is always right policy." They act like spoiled brat kids who jump up and down and scream and yell until the manager gives them their way just to shut them up. That's a big reason why that, unless in my opinion it has gone downhill from a certain point and there is no turning back (and even then, that can sometimes be a bit borderline), I stay away from shows that are still on the air. VHS - Random Topics
There is nothing wrong with VHS, it's true that tracking can be a problem and tape heads have to be cleaned, but I think it served well as a visual medium for 20 good years before DVDs showed up. And to the one who submitted that the more superior Betamax format was replaced, the problem with Beta was that it did not have a long enough recording time for movies, only one hour compared to two hours on VHS. Introducing an SLP mode to double recording time didn't work in their favor because the same setting on VHS made their recording time even longer, and because of this convenience Beta was unable to compete. -- Submitted By: (jconifer7) on August 5, 2010, 10:57 am

When DVD first came out, I didn't drop VHS like a hot potato. It took me a couple of years before deciding to give it a try. Even then, I'm not about to ditch my old VHS tapes - there are some things I've recorded that I doubt will ever get onto DVD (case in point being the 1984 National League playoffs between the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs). -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on August 5, 2010, 10:25 am

Ropers, The - TV Shows
Mythigator, Way back in the late 1950's, during the last days of "I Love Lucy", the Arnazes and CBS wanted to spin off the Mertzes into their OWN series but Vivian Vance REFUSED even for extra monies because she didn't want to chance bedroom scenes with Bill Frawley (and did her best to avoid getting too close to him in the original series- the two somewhat detested each other). Anyway, consider this series a 70's version of how THAT show might have gone had Vance been willing to tolerate bedroom scenes with Frawley. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on August 5, 2010, 9:33 am

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
Why is BTF's assessment of The Simpsons different from the Scottish Site? Simple ... The Scottish Site's heyday had some overlap with the time when The Simpsons was still consistently pretty good, which is probably when the show got most of the "Never" votes. IIRC, there was some griping about that in the comments on The Simpsons during the later years of the Scottish Site -- people wanted the displayed votes to reflect that in recent years, the majority of the voters felt that the show had gone down the tubes. BTF doesn't have the same pattern of votes on The Simpsons because it's looking at the show from roughly ten years later, when there are a lot fewer people who feel that the show has never boned. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on August 5, 2010, 6:53 am

Hooters (restaurant) - Random Topics
The sexiness comes from something being in a setting where you wouldn't expect it -- in this case, sexy women in tight clothing serving food in a restaurant. For another example, you wouldn't even blink to see a woman wearing a bikini on the beach, but if a bikini-clad woman turned up in an office setting, EVERY eye would be on her because of the "unexpected" factor. That's the best explanation I can think of for the Hooters appeal -- from everything I've heard, it's certainly not the food. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on August 5, 2010, 6:41 am

Ropers, The - TV Shows

Family Guy - TV Shows
I don't think that Family Guy boned for making fun of Sarah Palin or down syndrome (a lot of other shows have done it too, including South Park), I think it boned mainly for the fact that, like other people said, there isn't really too much of a plot a lot of times, and mainly just one pop culture joke after another (almost like a movie made by Friedberg and Seltzer). -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on August 3, 2010, 8:20 pm

I've noticed how back when "that site that must not be named" was still active, the most voted option (at least from what I remember) was "Never jumped/boned", and here there are six options that have more votes. Anyway, for me, I say it boned around the time when Maude Flanders died. Although it was starting to go downhill a little before that, I use that as the pin point of it going downhill. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on August 3, 2010, 7:59 pm

Night Court - TV Shows
I really have to disagree. Most sitcoms in the '80s were horrible, saccharine Family Ties-ripoffs about families dealing with moral issues ("very special" episodes). Growing Pains, Charles in Charge, Who's the Boss, Mr. Belvedere, etc, etc. This one was a fresh change of pace and concentrated more on being outrageous and funny. There was no one like Dan Fielding on TV at that time. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on August 3, 2010, 1:31 pm

I didn't realize that, PYLRulz! I wonder if today's episode will reflect that. When she spoke to Hugh, all she did was bash her family, bash her family, bash her family, and hyperventilate that her family would embarrass her in front of Hugh. Then, when it's Hugh's turn to say something nasty about her family..."How dare you say mean things about my family, the wedding's off!" She doesn't realize she did him a favor in the long run by leaving him at the altar. And to Chubby Rain...it's a zombie, all right. Moderators (Internet Forum) - Random Topics
There are good mods, but on many sites or forums, they're overshadowed by the actions of unreasonable mods who misuse their powers to get their way (controlling a board, making sure nothing negative is said about a certain subject, Wikipedia, etc.). Years ago, there was one board where me and fellow fans of a certain subject started a comment thread. We made sure to stay on topic. One of the mods, who clearly did not like the subject, decided they could claim it was off-topic and soon removed it. We appealed that we felt the thread was not off topic, and the reply was "I think it was". They didn't want to hear it anymore and upheld the removal of the thread. We didn't want to risk being banned or whatnot, so we decided not to restart the thread. We had the last laugh, though. We started a new topic which was VERY on-topic...and included criticisms against the mod's unreasonable attitude. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on July 31, 2010, 10:47 am

This Rosie Huntington-Whitely person surely can't be any WORSE at acting than Megan Fox, and she almost *has* to be less of a diva. So as far as I'm concerned it's a net gain. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 30, 2010, 6:29 pm

Moderators (Internet Forum) - Random Topics
It honestly depends on the particular mod. I've seen some that were the worst. They'd let their personal circle of friends bully anyone else who wasn't with no consequences whatsoever while anyone not in the Inner Circle would get banned for literally no reason. Then there's mods who literally refuse to do anything about people ruining a board, because they're just too scared to "abuse" their power. A good mod is hard to find. But they're out there, you just have to spend a lot of time looking. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 30, 2010, 6:27 pm

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
The movie actually wasn't that bad, but yes, it still is sad to see this show go down as it has. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on July 30, 2010, 3:59 pm

A message board that I go on, the mods there are nothing more than forum nazis. Post something they don't like (and it could be anything), and they will ban you without a second thought. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on July 30, 2010, 3:58 pm

Griefer (internet) - Random Topics
I agree. I played my Civilization IV game online once, and it was nothing but players just flouting the rules. The only online game I play is Football (Soccer) Manager Live, and its actually well run, so if there is a griefer, its taken care of quickly -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on July 30, 2010, 3:57 pm
