Battle Angel Alita, known in Japan as Gunnm...literally - "Gun Dream", is a manga series created by Yukito Kishiro in 1990 and originally published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine. Two of the nine-volume comics were adapted into two anime original video animation episodes titled Battle Angel for North American release by ADV Films and the UK and Australian release by Manga Entertainment. Manga Entertainment also dubbed Battle Angel Alita into English. The manga series is continued in Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. James Cameron is slated to do a fully 3D CGI version of this story sometime around 2011.

1 Ive been closely following both situations- the AVATAR being put ahead of BAA is tragic- being that Avatar is comlete and utter Shite, and basically only a piece of flashy PC propaganda that folks liked "looking at"- this film was devoid of any heart, emotion or storytellign that wasnt plagarized and sold to the audience as a 3rd grade level. BAA is an amazing story told now over 22 volumes that is INCREDIBLE. This is a waste to put avatar (note now in all small case) above BAA. The censorship thing with his publisher will pass, I think Kishiro wanted out of his publishing deal or something, not as concerned with this. Let me know if anyone wants links to this situation and I will post for you! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on November 27, 2010, 7:30 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Cameron put the movie on hold AGAIN to do stupid Avatar sequels. And the manga is suspended indefinitely due to the author fighting with the publishers over censorship. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 27, 2010, 12:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Yukito Kishiro is a genius- hands down. This manga has gone on for close to 16 years, and 19 volumes of material, all of it stellar. The Cameron Film could throw this whole property into superstardom- which it deserves. The mid-90's OVA series was also top notch, and worth checking out, even though it was only two episodes long. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 29, 2009, 12:42 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
