Random Topics - High School

High school is the name used in some parts of the world (in particular Scotland, North America and Australia) to describe an institution which provides all or part of secondary education. The term originated in Scotland and spread to the New World countries as the high prestige that the Scottish educational system had at the time led several countries to employ Scottish educators to develop their state education systems.

I think we all have regrets from those years. Whether it be things we said/did that we wished we hadn't, things we didn't do/say that we wished we had or any number or other regrets. I think it's also important to remember that some of the mistakes we made back then helped us to learn lessons that allowed us to grow and (hopefully) mature into the people we are today. So, if you see a High School aged 'kid' acting in a way we disapprove of, remember that we were that young at one point in our lives as well. I'm not saying it excuses it, but that we have to remember that at that age, we're all still learning and growing and we should cut 'them' a little slack. Not let them get away with it, but be understanding. As for going to a high school reunion, I don't think mine even had one to be honest. I'm not sure if I would have gone even if it did. Never having been to one, I can't say how they go or if it's worth it. However, if you've moved on and want to keep that past in the past then maybe not going is the best thing to do. Then again, maybe seeing everyone else as they are now might help things if you discover they too have matured and changed. It might help to reinforce that those years and the issues are the past and that they've moved on as well. Who knows, maybe you'll make some new friends or re-discover some old ones. -- Submitted By: (ExplodingConsole) on May 1, 2011, 12:17 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm having a hard time making a decision on whether to go to my high school reunion or not. My 10 year reunion is in a few months and I no longer reside in the city my high school is in. A part of me is like "go and see what people look like now" and a part of me is like "I only keep in touch with 2-3 people from high school these days, what's the point?" Again, was never a huge fan of high school, but curiosity might win me over to attend. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on May 1, 2011, 12:16 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

All I'll say about high school is that it would be nice to jump in a time machine and go back to that era. I'd befriend all the unpopular kids, knock the bullies on their asses, make fun of all the stuck-up "popular" girls to their faces, and just be a general rabble-rouser. Then I'd go home and thank my mom and dad for being such good parents. (They'd both faint, of course.) -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 28, 2011, 3:51 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
For me, high school was rather cliquish but in retrospect, I'm glad I went through it so I'd be able to deal with cliquishness in college and the workplace! Still, I think parents need to be extra careful NEVER to tell their kids that high school's the 'best years of their lives'- because more than one depressed kid's taken that literally and seen no point in living beyond that time. Needless and tragic. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 18, 2010, 8:06 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Never liked it much. Liked college much more. Classes were easy, most of the people were douches, all the popular kids are deadbeats now, school spirit was a joke, college wasn't that difficult to get into... just kind of a waste of time. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on October 18, 2010, 7:12 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I hated high school, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. And this was in the late 80s/early 90s, when it wasn't half as bad as today. And I don't get all this college admission stressing. There was none of that in my day. I took the ACT once and never took the SAT, and nobody cared. Colleges were sending ME letters. Any idiot can go to college, they'll literally let anyone in as long as they can pay somehow. All this artificially created "competition" trying to scare kids into thinking they'll never be admitted to any college is a big, fat lie. And how many high schoolers even make grades high enough to meet these made up standards anyway? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on October 18, 2010, 6:27 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
And that, BigAl, is exactly why my stomach turns over whenever I see these people walking around. It's like they're being rewarded for doing nothing, which really grinds my gears. -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on October 15, 2010, 2:58 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
It's sad but true, ScottyB. In my junior year of high school (1992-93), there was a girl on my school bus who got pregnant and had the kid. While I'm struggling to make ends meet, she's probably living off the government teat and sucking it drier than the Atacama Desert. Ugh. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 14, 2010, 7:31 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Oh boy, don't even get me started on the teen pregnancies in school nowadays. This girl that was in my Spanish class last year was already pregnant with her second child! The point is, it's actually sort of depressing to see these kinds of people walking around, because these lazy, irresponsible whores (sorry to put it that way, but it's true) will be feeding off my tax dollars when I'm out in the real world actually trying to make something of myself. Simply sickening... -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on October 14, 2010, 1:03 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Is it just me, or is all of American society just like high school now? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 11, 2009, 4:13 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
