TV Shows - Sportscenter
SportsCenter is a daily sports news television show, and the flagship program of American cable network ESPN since the network launched on September 7, 1979. Originally airing once per day, SportsCenter is now shown up to twelve times a day, replaying the day's scores and highlights from major sporting events, along with commentary, previews and feature stories. Due to its durability, it has been shown more times than any other show in American television, with over 30,000 unique episodes. It celebrated its 30,000th show on February 11, 2007. The show is taped in ESPN's HDTV studio facilities in Bristol, Connecticut.

I remember it actually being a decent show too!!! At one point, it even made Craig Kilborn tolerable. Remember him? Leave it to Disney to ruin something... -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 10, 2011, 6:06 pm - (0 votes)

I remember up until about 1997, around the time Disney purchased ABC, that Sportscenter was a great show. It was informative, entertaining, and somewhat edgy. You had greats like Bob Ley, Robin Roberts, Charley Steier, Keith Olbermann (regardless of your political persuasion, he was legendary on this show) and Dan Patrick. You had news on all the teams and most of the sports. It didn't come across over the top or gossipy. However, once it was "Disneyized", it lost a lot of luster. Now it's gossipy, it focuses on about four teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Patriots, Lakers), most of the anchors are bland except for Steve Levy, Hannah Storm, and John Anderson and it's over the top in presentation. In fact, besides College Gameday, PTI and Baseball Tonight, I can't stand most of what's on ESPN anymore. I go to MLB Network, NFL Network, NBA TV or the Internet to get my sports news. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on June 10, 2011, 8:59 am - (0 votes)

If you are not LeBron James, the Lakers, the Patriots, the Red Sox, or Yankees, or both, you are not even worthy of their air it seems. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 4, 2009, 4:45 am - (1 votes)

Sportscenter had some relevancy when it was just on a few times a day (and some of them repeats). Each show was actually a show that you might watch from start to finish for all the day's sports news and the network's best infotainment. Now it's on constantly and very watered down... it's the headline news of sports. PTI, which beats SC in the ratings, is sort of what Sportscenter used to be... all (or most) of the day's sporting news in a funny, irreverent and entertaining package. But ESPN more or less chose to do this when they made Sportscenter more of a brand than a specific show. It might make more money but the shows themselves are bland and not memorable. -- Submitted By: (doctor_awesome) on November 10, 2009, 10:06 am - (0 votes)

Speaking of Brett Favre, the new ESPN program "SportsNation" actually set a Guinness World Record for the most mentions of a single name in one TV broadcast, I kid you not. They said "Brett Favre" 200 FREAKING TIMES IN ONE HOUR!!!!!! That's just plain ridiculous! -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on October 7, 2009, 8:47 pm - (0 votes)
