The National Geographic Magazine, later shortened to National Geographic, is the official journal of the National Geographic Society. It published its first issue in 1888, just nine months after the Society itself was founded. It is immediately identifiable by the characteristic yellow frame that surrounds its front cover.

I'll second the comment about the new editor, today its all about environmentalism, slanted to the left as usual. -- Submitted By: (Regulus) on December 23, 2012, 6:22 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I loved NG when I was a kid, but when a new editor took over in the early 80s, it seemed like it was less and less about the world in general, and more and more about the life of insects. And I hate bugs...blech! The article on how ants "did it" finished it for me, I gave up my subscription and never bothered with it again. -- Submitted By: () on December 6, 2011, 9:17 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
National Geographic was a good magazine. I grew up reading my grandpa's extensive collection. I would say that it hasn't so much boned as just become a victim of its long (121 years) in circulation. It seems that they just have the most boring articles now. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on October 4, 2009, 6:42 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

"National Geographic" and "Nature" are two great magazines. My campus library has every issue from the start (back in the 1800s). -- Submitted By: (SVN) on August 28, 2009, 6:32 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
