Random Topics - Doonesbury
Doonesbury is a comic strip, frequently political in nature, created by Gary Trudeau and launched in 1970. It follows the stories of Michael Doonesbury and various other characters, including Doonesbury's ex-wife J.J. and daughter Alex, Vietnam veteran B.D., hippie Zonker, and Mr. Butts, a giant anthropomorphic cigarette intended to represent and satirize the tobacco industry.

It was hilarious when it came back after a two year hiatus during the Reagan years. There we got introduced to characters like "Mr. Butts" (cartoon cigarette character) and "Ron Headrest" (Reagan spoof based on Max Headroom). That was funny stuff, but long gone and forgotten I'm afraid. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 10, 2012, 1:38 pm - (0 votes)

Trudeau's wit has always been a bit too meat-cleaverish for my taste. ("Subtle" and "understated" are not familiar concepts to him.) -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 30, 2011, 4:04 am - (0 votes)

I'm sorry, but what is so funny or entertaining about this comic? -- Submitted By: (Mr.Zimpy) on January 2, 2011, 5:33 pm - (1 votes)

In my local newspaper, there are two political comics for the opinion page. Doonesbury, and Mallard Fillmore (since the "Republican" paper and "Democrat" paper merged to print one paper together instead of two seperate papers). In terms of sanity, Doonesbury far outdoes Fillmore (which seems to be nothing more than a comic to scare righties into thinking we are going to hell or some crap), so it has that going for it.
That being said, I do not care much for the comic either, but at least it doesn't freak lefties out into thinking righties are taking this country straight to hell (short of the Bush bashing it did when he was in office). -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on September 27, 2010, 10:15 pm - (0 votes)

I remember when I was a little kid I would read the comics section. But I never found Doonesbury funny. "Maybe when you're older you will," my mother said. 25 years later and I'm still not laughing. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on September 27, 2010, 11:54 am - (2 votes)
