Random Topics - Pet Rock

The Pet Rock was a 1970s fad. It was conceived by Gary Dahl. Pet Rocks were stones bought from a builder's supply store and marketed as though they were real pets. It lasted only 6 months, ending in Christmas 1975. Training manuals taught owners how to train their pet rocks; though some tricks such as "come" were impossible to teach, the rock was a natural when it came to "stay" and "sit".

3 Got it in one, shanequia. I still got a rock from the shore of Lake Michigan back when I was about 7 - spray-painted it silver and put on a pair of toy eyes. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on September 7, 2010, 9:04 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
4 This a stupid ideia but we make our own and save a lot of money. We just pull the eyes off of another toy and glue them on a rock and we good to go. -- Submitted By: (shanequia) on September 16, 2009, 10:17 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 "Whoever marketted this back in the 70's proved Barnum's adage quite right!" Don't forget the other adage this proves right: A fool and his money are soon parted. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on July 7, 2009, 1:30 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
6 Whoever marketted this back in the 70's proved Barnum's adage quite right! It didn't take a rocket doctor to wonder why folks were willing to pay cash for something they couldn't teach to play fetch and they could have dug up freebies in their own backyards! Bogus! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 4, 2009, 3:49 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
