I'm surprised how well the show has held up for me. It is dragging out the premise a bit, but assuming they wrap it up well in the next season and a half it could remain never boned to they end. That may be too many episodes and introducing the mother too soon could kill it too. If they go beyond a ninth season it is sure to get boned.
I actually like the trajectory of the Barney character. He showed plenty of signs of having a heart of gold from the beginning and the transformation has been believable. C'mon, whoever suggested Britney, just look at all the other stars joining the show for various reason. I liked most roles characters played by them.

Although the concept of the "circle of close friends" is certainly not new, I find the writing for this show to be very clever. I must admit that Neil Patrick Harris as Barney the womanizer is a bit of a stretch. Incredibly I am STILL seeing ads for this show. How long's it been on the air now, 7, 8 years? At this rate whoever was supposed to meet the mother won't actually do so until age 50, let alone have the kids!

How many of you needed to hear about NPH coming out to know he was gay? It was so obvious, from the start, and his "womanizing" was painfully embarrassing. I honestly don't understand how this show has become so popular. It seems so stupid with the same mini-plots playing week after week. The only reason I even looked at it was because of the cute little gal in the cast who had the famous flute abuse line in that movie, a while back. Neil Patrick Harris coming out of the closet definitely hurt the show, and this is pretty unusual because for me personally, it takes alot for an off camera thing to ruin an in character performance.
