TV Shows - Mystery Science Theater 3000
Mystery Science Theater 3000 is about a man and his robot sidekicks who are trapped on a satellite in space by an evil scientist and forced to watch a selection of terrible movies. To keep sane, the man and his robots make a running commentary on the film, making fun of its flaws and wisecracking (or "riffing") their way through the film in the style of a movie theater peanut gallery.

It boned after Joel left, for sure. I've had many impure thoughts about Joel..... I loved all the movies, but I have to say my all time favorite was "Eeegah!"...the movie was super schlocky, and all the commentary was totally razor sharp. I miss this show. Just like I miss "The Far Side." There's this whole chunk of brain that's just not getting any stimulation anymore!! -- Submitted By: (vickilaw) on July 22, 2012, 4:00 pm - (0 votes)

Hey, well at least there is RiffTrax, from Michael Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, whom I had the pleasure to interview in 1997 (while MST3K was still on the air). We need a show like this again. With 500 networks out there, and a megaton of crap on television, you would thing ONE could produce a new version of MST. -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on April 16, 2012, 7:46 am - (1 votes)

Mythigator, I meant to say the station boned, the show never did. -- Submitted By: (Mr.Zimpy) on January 4, 2011, 6:32 am - (2 votes)

Zimpy -- You're blaming the show for the station's decision to cancel it? Doesn't sound fair. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on January 3, 2011, 6:59 am - (0 votes)

My favorite television show, I watched it from beginning to end, I liked it even when joel left cause mike was still funny. I say it boned when the station cancelled it, they couldn't allow a original and amazing show to last on television. -- Submitted By: (Mr.Zimpy) on January 3, 2011, 6:10 am - (1 votes)

I can think of a few big time movies [cough] latter day "Star Wars" triology[/cough] that I wished the show had stuck around to skewer! It would have been a welcome counterpoint to all the shameless media worship. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on December 20, 2009, 5:01 pm - (-1 votes)

Is it me, or since MST went off the air are the movies coming out crappier and crappier. We need them to keep Hollywood in check. -- Submitted By: (MSmith) on December 2, 2009, 12:14 pm - (0 votes)

The post-Dr. Forrester host segments were where I'd say it boned. Two of my favorite episodes, Space Mutiny and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders, are from that era, and the theater parts are pure gold, but the host segments are painfully unfunny. It's hard to believe they were even made by the same people. Still, the show as a whole never got bad, and will be dearly missed. Keep circulating the tapes! -- Submitted By: (Hanglyman) on September 30, 2009, 3:39 pm - (0 votes)

Let me start by saying this was probably one of the funniest TV shows Ive ever seen. The riffing and commentary made me laugh out loud, not many shows have done that to me. Anyway, it tried to Bone when Joel left, it wasn't the same, but Mike Nelson was pretty hilarious himself. Joel and Mike both had their moments in my book, but the show Boned for good when Dr. Forrester left, and was replaced by his Mother, and Tv's Frank was replaced by the Ape men and the alien. The story ark didn't work, making the host segments suffer. The riffing in the theater segments never boned, though. But by the later part of the show, that was all I watched. -- Submitted By: (Johnny_T._Bird) on July 25, 2009, 10:12 am - (0 votes)

I agree with the poster that the monkey thing (and the Roman world and Observers) pushed it into the fish market, but it never went all the way. And, for every good Joel Hodgson episode, there was a good Mike Nelson installment and vice-versa. Still, it was the movies and MiSTing that kept me coming back to the show, not necessarily the host segments. My all-time favorite TV show, bar none. It was the only program that I would make time to see (or record) no matter what was going on at the time. From an original MiSTie from 1991, this show will NEVER EVER bone anything. -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on July 15, 2009, 2:43 am - (1 votes)

When Joel left, it boned. Though it was still watchable after that, Pearl and those monkeys came along, slamming shut the door on its hope of boning back. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 7, 2009, 12:47 pm - (-2 votes)

I voted for Pearl and The Monkey men were lame, because they were, but the show was still good in the theater segments. The host segments started to suck with Joel leaving, but the theater riffing was still funny (in fact I found it more consistantly funny because it was more accessable to me). So in a way it jumped the -- er, boned the fish and in another way it was still good. -- Submitted By: (Spooky) on April 24, 2009, 2:29 pm - (0 votes)
