TV Shows - Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan, The

The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan was an American Saturday morning animated cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1972, based upon the Charlie Chan movie series of the 1930s and '40s. It is noteworthy that the voice of Mr. Chan, Keye Luke (who played the part of Chan's son in some of the original movies), is the only actor of Chinese descent to play the title character.

1 I watched this when I was a kid because I knew the character from the Earl Derr Biggers novels and the old movies. It was cool that the movie "Number One Son" Keye Luke played Chan. Not so cool that Number One Son Henry's singing voice was Ron Dante, which meant he sounded just like Archie Andrews! And doubly uncool is that while the producers made a huge deal about this being the first time that an Asian-born actor played Chan, they also fired most of the Asian-American actors who voiced the Chan kids in the pilot! Also, this show had to hold the record for the largest number of animation gaffes in history! In just about every episode, the wrong character's mouth is moving when a line is read, particularly in scenes featuring the two oldest brothers. -- Submitted By: (Hateaol) on April 23, 2014, 9:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Where was their MOTHER?! Never a mention about (the late?) Mrs. Chan! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 6, 2009, 2:57 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
