The first couple of seasons were very good .The storys were realistic and the kids acted like real kids. That was what made the original series so great. I couldn't relate to Bevery Hills 90210 or Saved By the Bell, but Degrassi seemed real. Around the 3rd season the storys started to get more out there and you could feel something wrong with the way the series was heading. By the 4th it had fully become just another teenage soap opera with more and more unbelievable things happening. It's sad to see a once great and influental show fall so far. -- Submitted By: (JMoose) on November 30, 2012, 4:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Jumps in and out. Season 12 is on fire, some brilliant stuff. Season 11 is pretty good if a bit filler-y toward the end. Season 10, the first Spinnerless one had some landmark moments and some so-so stretches. Stay away from the instrumental-theme-music era, and tell the later seasons apart at a glance by the changes of dress code: Season 10- early: Normal clothes as per previous years. Late: Strict uniforms, identical khakis looking like they're from the same supplier, blue Degrassi cardigans the only acceptable outerwear, school IDs displayed on lanyards. Season 11- Looser uniforms, any pants that are beige/khaki in color OK as are non-regulation hoodies. Season 12- Back to normal street clothes, retaining displayed IDs. -- Submitted By: (yoda) on August 22, 2012, 7:32 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
It wasn't just the death of JT why the show went downhill but it marked the turning point of the show. The plot seemed to go nowhere for a while and then they merged the two schools together. That's when they started taking two regular years for one of their school years and basically just started dumping all of the original tng characters. I also thought that it was weird that they decided to make that one black chisk on the show younger so that she wouldn't graduate until later but I guess that whoever made the decision either thought that she was barely seen before that no one would pay attention to it or that the only people who would stopped watching after her former friends Emma and Manny were off the show. -- Submitted By: (Evette87) on January 13, 2012, 7:08 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I like the fact that actors on this show are real teenagers that are the same age or about 1 or 2 older than the characters. It also shows realistic topics that teenagers faces everyday like sex, drugs, bullying, etc. I kinda understand why for the new characters because the older cast can't stay in high school forever anyways. Unlike 90210 where they have actors over 30 still playing teenagers in high school with melodramic rich people problems. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on March 16, 2011, 10:10 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This show feels like nothing more than a cheesy knock off of the previous Degrassi shows. Plots and stories feel like cheap rehashes from the older series and the adults behave like kids. -- Submitted By: (Acobjum) on December 18, 2009, 2:36 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I really liked Rick, actually, and I didn't like the whole way that was handled. It had a bad message attached to it. Not that Rick was a totally good person, but he wasn't a stereotype and his character had layers. That being said, I stopped watching after season 7 was over. The plots are just rehashes of old plots from before season 8 and none of the original, more compelling characters are there except Spinner, who got turned into a total joke. I can't empathize with any of the characters. It's just stupid nowadays. -- Submitted By: (Kaybelf) on November 14, 2009, 2:57 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
This is actually a pretty good show. I should be too old for this but the characters are interesting and the subject matter is more realistic than other teenybopper shows. The show has always been ripe for BTF with new characters and deaths and people leaving but it never quite reaches that level yet. -- Submitted By: (JamesO) on October 22, 2009, 7:40 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
