Gunsmoke really boned the fish in the episode where a midget rides into town on a very large horse. He tells Matt and Festus that they better lock him up because he is a wear-elephant and he will turn into an elephant at midnight. His father is rich and owns fifty elephants he wants to get rid of before he dies. -- Submitted By: (RonaldLeeStandlley) on March 24, 2018, 6:04 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Gunsmoke came close to losing my viewership when Milburn Stone disappeared, to be replaced by Pat Hingle. Happily, the move was only temporary, as rumors of Stone's death proved premature and he returned to the show a few months later. As for JohnnyRocket42's unsettling Dodie fixation - as demonstrated by pretty much everything he has submitted to this site in recent months - I can only recommend that he acquaint himself with the stellar acting career of one Robbie Rist and then get back to us.... -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 17, 2011, 3:35 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
According to legend, When it was time to arrange the CBS Fall 1967 schedule, "Gunsmoke" was not on it. This came as a surprise and shock to the wife of a top CBS executive, since that was her favorite program on the network. and supposedly, to find a place for the show, they cancelled "Gilligan's Island" so there would be room! Though nobody on "Gunsmoke" was responsible for this travesty of television, they still get my full punishment for it! -- Submitted By: (TheDeanofNYC) on September 1, 2010, 12:48 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
In spite of the fact that even in its heyday, it often seemed to be as exciting as "Dragnet", the show somehow endured for 20 Seasons. Virtually the only interesting aspect of the show was that the otherwise straight-arrow Marshall Matt had a longstanding 'friendship' with a single woman who wore silk petticoats and heavy makeup outside outside her bedroom who happened to own the town's saloon and live in luxury in a large apartment above it. Back in those days (and in that locale), those factors would have spelled out that she would have been 'a woman of relaxed morals'(and relationships between frontier lawmen and prostitutes were hardly unknown or secret in that era) - yet she and Matt would only be shown giving each other alluring smiles and she would be seen kissing him just once. Unfortunately Amanda Blake got bored with the pivotal role of Miss Kitty and decided to leave the show after 19 years even though she was by now clearly middle-aged and no one could think of her as anything but Miss Kitty and her post"Gunsmoke" acting career was virtually non-existant. Matt occasionally would flirt with female guest stars the last season but it was rather half-hearted at best and no one was sad or surprised when the show finally gasped its last the very next season. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 14, 2009, 9:22 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The Queen of Grunge who couldn't act her way out of a wet diaper played a mute little hillbilly girl the worst two part episode of this series. -- Submitted By: (JohnnyRocket42) on July 13, 2009, 1:57 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
