A tattoo is a type of decorative body modification, made by inserting ink into the layers of skin to change the pigment for decorative, religious, or status reasons. Tattooing has been a Eurasian practice at least since around Neolithic times, but in Japan is thought to go back to the Paleolithic era, some ten thousand years ago.

Joe Bag of Donuts,
To each their own, I say. However; I agree that these days I DO seem to stand out in my city for being one of the few folks under 50 who doesn't have one! LOL -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on March 13, 2012, 12:30 pm - (1 votes)

It usedto be you set yourself apart by getting a tatoo, now you set yourself apart by NOT getting one. Hooked, Fileted, and Fried. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 1, 2012, 5:36 pm - (0 votes)

Cost and health concerns aside, what keeps me from getting a tat is I don't know what design to get. I've ruled out sports team logos and band names because my loyalties may change years later. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 21, 2010, 1:40 pm - (-1 votes)

I've never seen a tattoo that didn't look like a skin fungus. -- Submitted By: (MSmith) on August 22, 2010, 6:05 pm - (1 votes)

I kinda agree with Stephanie, and I'm glad she said it :-) Tattoos on women=trying way to hard to be "edgy" and "empowered". I don't know why that is, but it is.
My favorite is the cliched rose/heart on the ankle. Because a woman's ankle is what all men's eyes are drawn to. LOL -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 28, 2010, 9:39 pm - (-1 votes)

The one time in my life I had more than a casual thought of getting a tat, I noticed one on the forearm of a senior citizen. All wrinkled, droopy and faded. Looked like a blob. Within a couple days of that, my sister had broken up with the guy who encouraged her to get a huge tiger tattooed to the side of her leg. She regrets getting that, but is comforted by the fact that it helped inspire me to remain ink-free. -- Submitted By: (Nature_Boy) on December 30, 2009, 5:52 pm - (1 votes)

Tattoos used to be a mark of individuality. Now they're actually a mark of conformity, since not only do millions of people now get them on a lark, but get mostly the same ones everybody else has! Now having a tattoo is a sure sign one is a mindless sheep who only likes what everyone else does. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on August 2, 2009, 5:05 pm - (2 votes)
