Movie Series - Weekend at Bernie's
Weekend at Bernie's is a 1989 dark comedy starring Terry Kiser as Bernie, Andrew McCarthy as Larry, and Jonathan Silverman as Richard. When Larry and Richard uncover Bernie's insurance scam (not knowing he is involved), Bernie invites them to his beach home, where he plans to have mobsters kill them. However, the mobsters double-cross Bernie and kill him instead. When Richard and Larry see their boss is dead, they try to convince the coming beach house's guests that he is alive, so they are not blamed for his death. Weekend at Bernie's II was released in 1993, and this time, Larry and Richard plan to use their dead boss to find treasure he hid at the Virgin Islands. A voodoo curse makes him dance to where the treasure is hidden when he hears music.

Very true. The first was funny and maybe even clever, but where else can you go with this premise except downhill? Milking the same gag in a sequel was, to mix metaphors and make a pun, beating a dead horse. -- Submitted By: (AndyC) on October 10, 2009, 11:15 am |

The first movie was actually pretty good! Having a dead guy as a main character was an original enough concept that it made for a pretty good take at the box office. But the concept was only good for ONE movie. They should have let Bernie rest in peace and FEED the fish instead of boning the fish by grinding out a sequel. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on August 23, 2009, 11:21 am |

The whole premise should have been cremated before it ever came to the theater! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 29, 2009, 2:54 pm |
