Reality television is a genre of television programming that presents purportedly unscripted dramatic or humorous situations, documents actual events, and usually features ordinary people instead of professional actors. Although the genre has existed in some form or another since the early years of television, the term reality television is most commonly used to describe programs of this genre produced since 2000.

Ive never seen anything more unrealistic than so called reality tv! -- Submitted By: (TomPettyFan) on August 26, 2018, 2:22 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
We're basically watching shows of people, living. Living fixed lives in their fixed houses while confessing their feelings to a camera as if we're supposed to really care for their fakeness. Never would I thought I'd see the day where it'd bloom in it's own form of cancer for televisions everywhere. Thank god for selective viewing streaming videos have brought us. Now I don't have to tolerate the stupidity infecting the box. Sure I browse once in a rarity, but I see nothing changing and it's going no where at all. Their loss, I guess. -- Submitted By: (Infyrin) on January 23, 2014, 11:09 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I have netflix and no desire to get cable. I have almost every 80's show I watched way back when on instant queue. I have hated reality TV since it started getting big with Real world on MTV. I can't bring myself to watch the contest shows like survivor when all are all out to screw the other person over and then sit there crying. "Boo hoo, I can't believe they cheated on me, boo hoo." -- Submitted By: (rgphillips1971) on May 14, 2013, 10:09 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Chubby Rain and lrbloom, I think that's sums it up from Reality TV. It's either some bunch of nobodies or Z-listers you never cared about whining over some crap while partying, drinking and fighting or some "talent" contest either involves cooking, modeling, singing or dancing which always has some mean judge cursing people or both. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on October 7, 2011, 4:19 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
DIE REALITY TV!!! DIIIIIIEEEEE!!! IT'S THE FAKEST THING OUT THERE!!! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on October 4, 2011, 4:43 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
My least favorite reality shows are the "talent" shows which seem to just change names but keep the same panel of judges. I don't see the point. BS by any other name is still BS. The same thing with HK cooking show. Who watches this crap to see this guy curse at cooking students. What a crock! -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on October 4, 2011, 1:52 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I dont watch reality shows, but they are so omnipresent you cannot miss them, Im most boggled by the celebrity watching shows, or fake reality shows- Kardashians, Jersey Shore etc. Whenever you see clips of them or pass by them it just seems to be a bunch of over produced idiots sitting around and whining about something. It's like TV heroin- who is watching this, and why? -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on October 2, 2011, 6:14 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Friedrich, Agree- and furthermore it's not only just an insult to disco but, on today's market, it would even be an insult to mosh pits if one used that analogy to rock-and-roll. Sad thing is that the adults who participate in 'reality' shows VOLUNTEER to trash their own lives before an audience- unlike Christians or lions in Roman arenas! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on September 18, 2011, 5:39 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
That's an insult to Disco. ;) -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on September 14, 2011, 11:43 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
"Reality" Shows are to TV what Disco was to Rock and Roll! :( -- Submitted By: (Regulus) on September 9, 2011, 6:10 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
My least favorite programs of this sort are the "judge" shows. Granted, our legal system is already a joke, but reducing a courtroom case - well, okay, a courtroom arbitration procedure - to a half hour of ha-ha entertainment strikes me as grossly exploitative. No one involved in these shows seems to care much about justice: The plaintiff and defendant - which I'm sure most of you have noted are often the product of Trailer Park America - are there primarily because they want to be on TV; the audience - and heaven knows what sorts of dingdongs are in those audiences - is there to see fireworks; and the judge - who damn well ought to know better - is there to mug and preen and crack jokes. And yes, the Big Kahuna of the genre, "Judge Judy", is the worst offender. Never mind that she is needlessly rude and abrasive; there are plenty of judges NOT on TV who employ that shtick, mostly for reasons having to do with ego gratification. What bothers me most about Judith Sheindlin is that she presents her show as a sort of public service, to educate us about matters of civil law, when in fact all she is doing is exploiting unhappy people in order to get a huge paycheck and all the perks that come with celebrity status. I'd love to see her be coaxed onto a live broadcast, where an articulate critic would (figuratively) jump out of the bushes, ala Stone Phillips, and give her a sound belittling in front of the entire country. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 29, 2011, 1:44 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Some are somewhat watchable I don't which but you have complete crap like Living Lohan, Who wants to marry a Millionare, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Girlicious, Bachelor/Bachelorette, etc. It's no wonder people brains are turning to mush, it gives a new meaning to the term "Idiot Box". -- Submitted By: (SSM) on April 6, 2011, 7:34 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
ChubbyRain, how do we know for sure LSD *isn't* being put into drinking water? Maybe the only reason I'm not part of the "love everything that's garbage" crowd is that I never drink from the tap or water fountains, hmmm... I will go to my grave believing the government/media are intentionally brainwashing people into being mindless sheep. There's just no way this many people could be this stupid all on their own. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on April 5, 2011, 5:59 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Reality shows spread like a virus to cable networks as well. Sigh...no wonder people are watching TV less, myself included. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on April 5, 2011, 5:47 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I find myself watching less and less TV all the time, while there are some gems out there (Breaking Bad) hidden amongst the detritus, TV has become a wasteland of Epic proportions. And to hear the Sheeple get excited about "Dancing with the Stars" and "American Idol", they should just start pumping LSD into the drinking water at this point, it would have the same effect. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 5, 2011, 6:24 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Soggy9000 might have a point. Is it so far fetched to believe that all these celebs coming out of the woodwork the past decade really are part of a sinister alien plot to take over Earth? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on April 4, 2011, 6:01 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I say Fox is responsible for the degeneration of television with "Realicrap" TV. Other networks started with something reasonable (Survivor was actually good, something I would actually watch), then Fox started serving the lowest common denominator, and it just went downhill from there between most of the networks. MTV and Fox seem to be the worst culprits. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on April 2, 2011, 5:17 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
I lost my TV reception during the digital switchover (thanks to Presidents Bush and Obama), but I really don't miss it much. SO much reality garbage now. I don't get why people make fun of '70s variety shows; these reality shows are so much worse. I keep waiting for the fad to end, but it never does. Kind of like rap music. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on April 1, 2011, 3:09 pm - (5 votes) - Login to Vote
The only true "reality TV" are news shows (and some of THEM are debatable.) Everything else is unreal, and nothing is more unreal than the foolishness known as Reality TV. The programs are all filmed on Bizarro Earth and broadcast to our unsuspecting planet, probably for the purpose of turning everyone on Regular Earth against America. (They're doing a fine job of it too.) Also, it's no coincidence that the name "Kardashian" sounds suspiciously similar to the name of the evil alien race on Star Trek DS9. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 1, 2011, 6:09 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
