I like poker as much as the next person, and the concept of televised poker tournaments isn't intrinsically dumb. My complaint here is that all these shows - ALL of them, as far as I can tell - feature ONLY Texas Hold 'Em, as if that is the only style of poker in existence. Why don't they follow other poker variants? (I have the same complaint about televised pool competitions, which ALWAYS feature 9-ball and nothing else. I don't understand the mentality behind this; is it just a matter of dumbing things down for the audience?) -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 25, 2011, 1:39 pm - (0 votes)

Porn was *kinda* popular, but there was a time when people who were into it would never be dumb enough to admit it lest they be mocked and scorned by everyone else (most of whom were into it too).
That's always why I thought it was so weird when one year all of a sudden it just became okay to openly like it.
Another fad that's annoying me now is the death of any and all music that rocks--except on a video game. What??? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on February 22, 2010, 3:31 am - (0 votes)

DoFan316, I forgot about the ballroom dancing, cigars, and martinis. Strange how those fads come up. I thought porn was always popular though. :) Don't forget swing dancing becoming popular. I think the worse part of the poker thing was the Travel Channel showing it all the time. What does that have to do with traveling? -- Submitted By: (MCS) on February 16, 2010, 5:41 pm - (0 votes)

PREACH IT MCS!!! That was just...weird, along with other things that had been around in America for ages suddenly becoming popular out of nowhere, like ballroom dancing, cigars and martinis. Oh, and porn of course.
And then ESPN Classic turned into the All Poker, All The Time channel. Makes me glad I don't get it anymore. They probably showed the '99 World Series Of Poker 99 times a month! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on February 12, 2010, 1:15 am - (0 votes)

Yeah, I remember that fad, too. It was just as annoying as reality shows being on every channel! -- Submitted By: (SVN) on February 5, 2010, 8:19 am - (0 votes)

Does anyone remember when in about 2004 poker became such a rage? Every channel had to show it and all of a sudden every celebrity had to do it? That was a fad that was good to see die. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on February 4, 2010, 9:56 pm - (0 votes)

Now granted, I like playing poker from time to time, but the popularity of it, and the way poker has turned into what it is now. It's almost like some Beer League skater, or some Work Place Baseball player all of a sudden getting a NHL or MLB contract just because they, the player, thinks they can be good. Yeah, you do have one of these types that are actually good, and comes up with a big win, but its surge in popularity, and all these people who think they could play boned it. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 13, 2010, 4:59 pm - (0 votes)
