Oh now you've done it Stepahnie. Now you've planted the image of you in one of those one-piece swimsuits in my head, and I can't get it out!!! (I'm imagining you as a brunette.) I'll be right back... -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on December 29, 2011, 7:11 pm - (0 votes)

Stephanie,
That does explain a bit. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on December 19, 2011, 8:54 am - (0 votes)

FYI, Pelirojo, I was in the Miss Texas Pageant and the scholarship money helped me through college so surely, one can understand why I would endorse this Miss America franchise.
Also, it was shown on ABC last year. A major network. -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on December 18, 2011, 8:26 am - (0 votes)

Well, regardless of its merits or lack thereof, the audience has almost completely eroded. This used to be a huge ratings bonanza on the major networks but has been gradually demoted to crappier and crappier cable channels. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on December 17, 2011, 5:12 pm - (0 votes)

If it turned out Stephanie had stock in this pageant, it wouldn't come as a total surprise to me. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on December 17, 2011, 11:01 am - (1 votes)

Lots of people still watch it, Travoltron. It's a great opportunity for young women. It's legitimate...not just "fluff" like those children's pagenatns or the Miss USA franchise. For some reason, this category is listed twice on BTF, so I'll just copy what I put in the other one:
The Miss America pageant, is a SCHOLARSHIP pageant: i.e. these girls have to have a brain and a good GPA to even participate. As much as college costs these days, how can that be "outdated"? They aren't pretending to be "pure as the driven snow" and the swimsuit competitions are now done in bikinis. They are not asked "What would you do to save the world" but instead, are asked questions re: current events. And it's not WHAT they answer but HOW articulately and intelligently they answer. The winners and the runners-up on the state level and Miss America level win scholarship money, which allows them to pursue an education. Former winners have become doctors, news journalists, veterinarians, lawyers, etc. Check out the website to see the former Miss Americas' careers: http://www.missamerica.org/our-miss-americas/ -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on December 17, 2011, 9:41 am - (-1 votes)

In 1960, this might of been something, but today... I'd like to know who is financing this thing to still be on life support -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 16, 2011, 4:52 pm - (0 votes)

I don't really understand who the intended audience is for these things. Women are usually disinterested or outright offended by beauty pageants and they are just too dull and tame for today's men. A totally outdated concept that I won't be sad to see go away. And those child beauty pageants should be outlawed. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on December 16, 2011, 12:31 am - (0 votes)

Beauty pageants are the lamest competitions ever devised by the human mind. They seek to make virtues of attention-whoredom and narcissism. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 20, 2011, 3:57 am - (1 votes)
