Movie Series - Cocoon

Cocoon was a science fiction film series directed by Ron Howard. About 10,000 years ago, there was a group of aliens, the Antereans, who made an outpost on Earth, on the island which was once Atlantis. Twenty aliens stayed behind so the rest of the aliens could leave when the island was sunk by an earthquake. Four Antereans come back to Earth to pick them up, disguising themselves as humans and filling the swimming pool of the house they rented with lifeforce to ensure their cocoons have enough energy to allow them to survive the trip back home. Some elderly retirement home residents sneak a swim in the pool, absorbing some of its lifeforce into themselves and feeling younger and more energetic. Cocoon was released in 1985, while Cocoon: The Return was released in 1988.

1 I always thought it was unfair that the aliens took the old fogies who nearly wrecked their plans (and unintentionally turned one of their comrades into a dying raisin by using his pod as a pool prop) while leaving Steve Guttenberg who had HELPED them behind to deal with being the prime suspect in the 30 odd fogies' 'disappearances'. That said, not a bad pair of movies (to say nothing of Tahnee Welch [Raquel's daughter]why she did nothing after this I don't get)! Also, great last hurrahs for many screen stars of decades past- including Don Ameche! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on January 25, 2010, 5:31 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
