Ellen DeGeneres is an American comedienne and actress. She was born January 26, 1958 and was raised in Metairie, Louisiana. She is the daughter of Betty and Elliott DeGeneres, and the sister to Vance DeGeneres. She starred in the sitcom Ellen, which lasted from 1994-1998. It reached its height of popularity in February 1997, when Ellen DeGeneres came out of the closet on The Oprah Winfrey Show. After that, her character on Ellen came out of the closet as well. The Ellen DeGeneres Show, a talk show not unlike The Oprah Winfrey Show, was launched in September 2003. From 1997-2000, DeGeneres was in a relationship with actress Anne Heche. From 2001-2004, she was in another relationship, this time to Alexandra Hedison. Since 2004, DeGeneres has been in a relationship with Portia de Rossi, and they were married August 16, 2008. Both are vegan.
