Random Topics - Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch is an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. It was founded under the name Helsinki Watch in 1978 to monitor the former Soviet Union's compliance with the Helsinki Accords. As the organization grew, it formed other "watch committees" to cover other regions of the world. In 1988, all of the committees were united under one umbrella to form Human Rights Watch. Human Rights Watch has been criticized for perceived biases that are anti-Western and ignoring anti-semitism. On September 14, 2009, it was revealed that their senior military expert was an (in the words of the New York Times) "avid collector" of Nazi memorabilia.

1 I find it disappointing how so many groups which claim to advocate human rights (Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, etc.) prove they're full of BS. Some either care little for innocents while fighting tooth and nail for the rights of bloodthirsty criminals, terrorists, and other monsters, some protect human/constitutional rights only when they agree with it, and others have glaring biases. If a group calls themselves a Human rights advocacy group, don't be so quick to believe it. However, I'm not implying all Human rights groups are corrupt. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on April 25, 2010, 11:48 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
