The sequel just doesn't quite "take off" (sic) -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on June 27, 2011, 4:40 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
When I first saw the Airplane! movies many years ago, I didn't know they were spoofs of other movies. I thought they were just hilarious on their own. -- Submitted By: (rick283) on November 14, 2009, 10:47 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I also recall it spoofing the Airport movies but never saw them myself either. That's the great thing. One of the only spoof movies that can stand alone and still be enjoyable. "Spaceballs" might be another one. -- Submitted By: (ocfernan) on October 2, 2009, 4:49 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This past week, I watched the original Airport and Airport 75 for the first time in years. I knew that Airplane! was a spoof of these (among others) but I was stunned to see just how effectively Airplane! had spoofed them. If you're fairly familiar with Airplane!, then it's now almost impossible to take the Airport movies seriously - in your mind, the scenes in the serious movie set up a joke, but you never get the punchline. Similarly, I now can't watch Leslie Nielson or Lloyd Rridges in a serious role without expecting "Don't call me Shirley!" or "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking/smoking/amphetamines/sniffing glue". Definitely a case where the spoof has had a more lasting impact that the thing it was spoofing. -- Submitted By: (Eugene) on October 2, 2009, 6:25 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I gotta give credit to a movie that has comedy suspense in a space shuttle for the sequel and the oddity pulled it off. the first one was a classic but the second one was just about as enjoyable. boning was spared easily on this one. -- Submitted By: (ocfernan) on October 1, 2009, 8:18 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
