Random Topics - New England Patriots

The New England Patriots, commonly called the "Pats", are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area, playing their home games in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium. The team is part of the East Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating the team to Foxborough in 1971, although Foxborough is a suburb of Boston, 22 miles (35 km) away. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the 1970 merger of those leagues. The team advanced to the playoffs four times before appearing in Super Bowl XX in January 1986, losing to the Chicago Bears. The team also appeared in Super Bowl XXXI in January 1997, losing to the Green Bay Packers. Between 2001 and 2005, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history (after the Dallas Cowboys) to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX), and the eighth to win consecutive Super Bowls. The Patriots, however, were defeated by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. Under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have also compiled the two longest winning streaks in NFL history, an 18-game streak in 2003-2004, and a 21-game streak in 2006-2008 (the NFL excludes playoff games from their records).[1]

New England Patriots Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 After the Patriots lost to the Ravens in the postseason, I heard that Bill Belichick decided to be a sore loser and refuse to give any post-game interview regarding the game. Seeing as he got a slap on the wrist for Spygate, I strongly doubt the NFL will take any action on him displaying poor sportsmanship. As long as Belijerk is the Patriots' head coach, I doubt I'll be liking them anytime soon. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on January 23, 2013, 6:14 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I can't believe I haven't commented on this team yet. The media drools over them so much you'd never even know they haven't actually won a title in seven seasons. No, that's not a typo. And these days they only win their division because the other three teams keep taking turns self-destructing. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 16, 2012, 6:30 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
3 ........and welcome back to SportsCenter. This just in, the Patriots won! They beat a no-name less important team by a score of 31 to 17! Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback ever! Bill Belichick is a GENIUS! Patriots this, Patriots that! Go Patriots! We're so fair and balanced, and totally bias-free! Let's see some highlights from the Patriots game..................................Oh, and some other teams from No-Man's Land (i.e. anywhere outside New England) played, blah blah, blah. But go Patriots!...........Thanks for watching ESPN (Extra Special Patriots Network), and don't forget to tune in Friday night for Red Sox highlights. -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on November 14, 2009, 7:52 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
