TV Shows - Modern Family
Modern Family (formerly known as My American Family) is an American single-camera mockumentary comedy, which premiered on ABC on September 23, 2009. The series currently airs 9:00 Wednesdays in the 2009-2010 season. The half-hour series, which was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, is produced by Fox Television Studios. The mockumentary follows the families of Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), his daughter Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) and his son Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). While Claire is a homemaker mom in a traditional family, Jay is married to a much younger woman and raising a pre-teen stepson, and Mitchell and his boyfriend have adopted an Asian baby.

The only thing I really hate about this show is that fat little twerp Manny. The rest of the kids are great, the actors playing them are great, they are well written and very funny and real at the same time. But for some inexplicable reason, the writers and producers seem to have a Manny episode every other week. Enough, already, the kid is a total creep. As for Al Bundy, he is awesome! Jeez, how many 70 year olds marry a Columbian trophy wife that can even hold a candle to Sofia Vergara? Besides she is really, really funny! More Luke episodes and less Manny! -- Submitted By: (jmac9909) on March 28, 2013, 4:01 pm - (0 votes)

I'm going on record to predict that season 4 will be the boning moment of this show. Why? First, new baby. Second, more and more emphasis on guest stars. Third, puberty is becoming more and more noticeable on the kids. I saw the season premiere and was less than impressed. The jokes are starting to seem more and more forced and the whole thing seems slightly recycled. I hope I'm wrong. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on October 10, 2012, 5:46 pm - (2 votes)

I thought it has a slow start but now has really come into its own. Great show now. Is it just me, or is Julie Bowen hotter than Sofia Vergara? -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on March 13, 2012, 8:39 am - (0 votes)

I've only watched a few episodes. It's ok, I suppose. It's not the greatest show on earth but it does have Ed O'neil in it. By the way, if it came down to a fight between Ed O'neil and Chuck Norris, Ed would decimate him. :) -- Submitted By: (Jp) on October 15, 2011, 2:10 pm - (0 votes)

Sophomore slump? I still watch and enjoy the show, but it's not nearly as good as it was last year. In fact, the laughs over the last 3-4 episodes have been sparse. I have to say the episode with James Marsden was maybe the worst episode so far in the series. His character added nothing whatsoever to the episode and felt almost tacked on at the last second. The storyline with Phil/Claire and the fast driver was predictable. Jay and Gloria's storyline with the bike felt totally forced. That's the problem with this season. Last season, it seemed to all come naturally. Now, the jokes and storylines seem forced and trying way too hard to be cute or funny. I don't think the show has boned the fish officially yet, but if the quality of writing doesn't pick up in the second half of this season, I might have to revisit that notion. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on January 14, 2011, 4:09 pm - (0 votes)

Great show. Characters that act human and genuine with lots of great humor, but nice messages as well. I like it because for the most part the family can watch this together and everyone enjoys it. The humor has a lot of adult references, but not overly abundant or crude, but it's not saccharine sweet or cheesy like Full House, Family Ties or the family sitcoms of old in the messages it has. Good balance and proof that the family sitcom can evolve and survive in the present age. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 17, 2010, 2:22 pm - (0 votes)

My friend got me to watch an episode of this show. It's not too bad, but seeing how OLD ED O' Neill looks now depressed me. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on May 3, 2010, 2:43 am - (0 votes)

I'm one of those folks who actually hated "Married"(yeah, yeah boo me) but thought that the performers could do better stuff. Luckily, like "Eight Rules" did with Katey Sagal and "Samantha Who" did with Christina Applegate, this show's proven me right with Ed O'Neill. I like how this cluster of unconventional families in this one extended family who each have interesting personalities have a true bond despite (because?) of their clashing unconventionalities. Plus, it's good to see Ed (or Jay) actually happily married to a passionate but goldenhearted much younger Latina and a good dad to his smarter-than-but-still-respectful-to-his-folks stepson ! Oh yeah and it's just a genuinely funny show,IMO.

What a great cast to assemble. It's GREAT to see O'Neill as a patriarch character again. He's one of the best of the show, followed by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his partner. Best gay couple on TV. I'm still not quite buying the dad, Phil, as a character but he's very funny. The show is emotional and comical, and one of my favorite new comedies, as well as one of the best comedies on TV now. -- Submitted By: (SamuraiPanda201) on March 10, 2010, 11:22 pm - (0 votes)

This is a pretty good show, but I have to agree it is hard to see Ed O'Neil as someone other than Al Bundy. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on February 23, 2010, 9:17 pm - (0 votes)

Nice show- I cant separate Ed O'Neill as Al Bundy which is disconcerting, not enough to bone the fish, but getting close. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on October 11, 2009, 6:11 am - (0 votes)
