Communism is a socioeconomic structure and political ideology that promotes the establishment of an egalitarian, classless, stateless society based on common ownership and control of the means of production and property in general.[1][2][3] Karl Marx posited that communism would be the final stage in human society, which would be achieved through a proletarian revolution and only becoming possible only after a socialist stage develops the productive forces, leading to a superabundance of goods and services.[4][5]. "Pure communism" in the Marxian sense refers to a classless, stateless and oppression-free society where decisions on what to produce and what policies to pursue are made democratically, allowing every member of society to participate in the decision-making process in both the political and economic spheres of life. In modern usage, communism is often used to refer to Bolshevism or Marxism-Leninism and the policies of the various communist states which had government ownership of all the means of production and centrally planned economies. Communist regimes have historically been authoritarian, repressive, and coercive governments concerned primarily with preserving their own power.

Pelirojo, you and everyone else only see the obstacles because this way of thinking is literally unprecedented in human history. We have been led to believe for centuries by our so-called leaders that money is everything. Easy for them to say since they wind up somehow taking most of it. Burt this HAS toi be done, or at least stringly considered and I am NOT backing off on this. And it is NOT Communism. I do not advocate a totalitarian government, I am in fact advocating complete liberation from anything resembling it--like our current government. And this revolution MUST occur in a non-violent manner, that is absolutely imperative as well. It's time. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on October 6, 2011, 7:46 pm - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
DolFan Whoa! I gotta salute you for being able to still have more surprises than I would have imagined. I'll skip for now why I believe this utopian concept would not work out except to say that I think there would be fierce competition for international tour guides while few if anyone would consider the positions of nuclear waste processors or septic tank cleaners 'dream jobs'. And where would we find the mouse to put the bell on the cat's neck anyway so how would we even begin to work towards this? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 6, 2011, 10:54 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
We would all be better off to live under a communist government ??? I think we've seen this movie too and many times before. Surely you jest! -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on October 6, 2011, 4:12 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Wildflower, stop posting as DolFan. It's not funny. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on October 6, 2011, 1:29 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Simple. There is no "pay". Everyone gets everything free, that is, anyone can have as much as anyone else. There are no more multi-billionaires lording it over everyone else while millions are jobless. People will work to benefit society--as it should've been all along--and take jobs they love doing, as opposed to jobs they think will pay the most money. Being able to have anything one wants would more than make up for a limiting salary--that and without money a whole lot of people who were previously considered slackers and welfare cheats will get *really* bored sitting at home all day and want to do *something*. Also, we can get past this absurd dependence on oil and drug companies will actually have to make a product that doesn't make people sicker than the disease to get their money. Ads will have no more reason to exist. Neither will taxes. Politicians, CEOs, celebs and pro athletes will literally be no better than the rest of us, and soon everyone will realize how utterly superfluous most of their "jobs" really are. Crime will be DRASTICALLY reduced. I'm sure there are a lot of other benefits I'm not thinking of right now, but all of humanity would be instantly and infinitely improved. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on October 5, 2011, 7:12 pm - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
DolFan, Maybe I shouldn't be asking this but how would you propose compensating folks for work in lieu of paying them monetary salaries? Would we paid in barrels of rum ,lumps of salt or cacao pods[all of these have been used at one point or another in history: Colonial Era Caribbean , Roman Empire, Aztec + Early Spanish Mexico respectively]? None of those would be so easy to transport or exchange if we went on vacation -to say nothing of having to pay bills with. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 5, 2011, 3:02 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Communism isn't the answer. The abolishment of the monetary system is. And no, that's not the same thing. Isn't it odd that this so-called worker friendly system always results in totalitarian regimes? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on October 4, 2011, 5:03 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Ah, I see Wilddrawfour comes from the "if only Communism was run right.." camp. Isnt there a protest of Wall Street you are missing today in NYC? -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on October 2, 2011, 6:06 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
I think communism boned the hardest when it established the centrally planned economy. If Marx had kept the free market I think the communists might have pulled it off. -- Submitted By: (wilddrawfour) on August 23, 2011, 11:31 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
While the idea seems good in paper, it was unpractical and it "boned" when applied in the real word with the rise of Communist dictatorships in Russia. -- Submitted By: (Onesimos) on February 12, 2011, 7:25 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
LMAO!!! It's because people today for the most part are mindless sheep and actually believed that bit about "change" never once thinking it might mean change for the worse. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 6, 2010, 6:15 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't get the voting here. If so many people are opposed to communism then how did we get the administration we currently have? -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 5, 2010, 7:14 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote

It sure is amazing how all these "classless" and "egalitarian" Communist societies always somehow get taken over by power mad dictators and their cronies who enjoy priveleges the rest of the people don't, isn't it? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on February 12, 2010, 1:10 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

The death toll for people murdered by communist governments in the 20th century is at least 100,000,000. You read that right. One. Hundred. Million. -- Submitted By: (BrianBuck) on January 15, 2010, 8:34 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
How do you tell a communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin - Ronald Reagan -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on November 18, 2009, 7:04 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
