Ok, they had a NASTY crash yesterday at the Nationwide Series race that nearly made "Final Destination" look like reality. 28 injured, 14 of those to the hospital, 2 in critical condition. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on February 24, 2013, 1:19 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Meh. It's not a sport, it's just a bunch of cars going around and around the same track about 200 times, over and over and over and over and over. And over. People who would actually watch entire "races" must have *really* boring lives. What do they do when NASCAR's not on, watch their grass grow? And yet somehow this actually became TRENDY, which just goes to prove the American sheeple can be convinced *anything's* cool. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 5, 2012, 7:27 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Boned when Dale Earnhardt was killed. And what's interesting is that it wasn't so much that Earnhardt's death was the reason the sport boned, but it just seemed everything we loved about NASCAR went away around the time he died. Sponsorship went from a necessary factor to keep teams running, to becoming the primary focus of the media. His death was the first race in a new TV contract, where we went from solid, knowledgeable commentators to a bunch of hacky clowns who don't even try to hide who their favorites are anymore (do we really need to hear about how wonderful Carl Edwards is every week?) Unique, interesting tracks were getting replaced by 1.5 mile courses that are clones of each other. Finally, the drivers stopped having personalities and became corporate shills. Regardless of whether Earnhardt was your favorite driver or not, his death was really a strong symbol of when NASCAR boned. -- Submitted By: (BBulaga75) on June 4, 2012, 2:03 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I will admit that is also a bit of a factor. Some of the stuff, like Winston being removed as a sponsor, that was going to happen regardless of if NASCAR was still going to be good ol' boys or not, but some of the other stuff, I think NASCAR leadership got caught up in it all. Maybe they will get smart, and change for the better though. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on March 8, 2010, 12:58 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I could care less about NASCAR, but it boned when it sold it's soul to the mainsteam. Danica Patrick? NEXTEL Cup instead of Winston? NASCAR is good ole boys racing around a track, once the suits got a hold of it it became prime BONE-THE-FISH territory. Remember your core fans and focus on that. I even have picked up on how much this sport has boned and I dont watch it! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on March 8, 2010, 9:40 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
I would really see it starting at when Mike Helton was put in his position of power in NASCAR. Most of the rules and such he has put out there has really hurt the sport. I know lots of people could say the Brian France or such, but I think Helton is the main brains of the boning. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 6, 2009, 9:27 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Two reasons that kind of go hand in hand. The Car of Tomorrow was just a bad move, took all the creativity out of setting up the cars and most of the excitement out of the actual racing. That was bad enough, but whoever designed the CoT played right into the hands of certain teams that could *cough cough* do no wrong and come every September, bore the fans to tears. Jimmie Johnson, aka the human version of Sominex, I'm looking in your direction. -- Submitted By: (jrbor76) on November 29, 2009, 1:40 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
