TV Shows - Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse

Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse was a children's cartoon television show which aired in 1960. The characters were created by Bob Kane (who created Batman) as a parody of his earlier works Batman and Robin and in many ways predict the more campy aspects of the later live action series. In the animated series, the pair are anthropomorphic animal superheroes without secret identities (the green-eyed caped crimefighter and his squeaky-voiced sidekick are usually addressed as simply "Courageous" and "Minute") who live in the Cat Cave and, when summoned via the Cat Signal over their television set, race to the scene of the crime in their sleekly feline red Cat Mobile which can convert into both the extendable-winged Cat Plane and submersible Cat Boat and thwart the criminal plots of various villains who threaten Empire City by using either Courageous Cat's all-purpose Cat Gun or a vast variety of different deus ex machina "trick guns" he pulls out of his cape that, like Green Arrow's trick arrows, fire whatever the situation requires be it rope, water, a parachute, cages, boxing gloves, lightning-like magnetic rays or even more bizarre ammunition and even the occasional actual bullet (in case of emergency Courageous also has extra pre-James Bond secret gadgets hidden in his belt buckle and the star emblem on his chest). Although they fought many miscreants the duo's recurring archenemy who appeared in nearly every episode was the chortling, cigar-smoking, derby-hatted criminal mastermind known as the Frog whose real name is Chauncey and whose voice was based on Edward G. Robinson. Dal McKennon and Bob McFadden provided the voices for the series.

1 It's weird how the guy who created Batman created this. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on February 26, 2010, 1:04 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I remember one episode in which The Frog used some kind of devise to EXPAND The Duo to gigantic proportions and, until they got the antidote, The Frog had a one-amphibian crime spree because he rightly counted on these two being too lame to do anything more than freeze in place because they were too 'heroic' to want to chance having buildings or cars crushed by their gigantic size! Let's just say their Godzilla Meets Mister Rogers Tude made it one of the dullest cartoons this side of Pre-Cable Test Pattern Indian Chiefs. The Frog was a far more interesting and fun villain than this pair deserved and would have been way better spun off on his how! Also, did anyone else wonder why these two came together as partners instead of the cat chasing the mouse? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on February 14, 2010, 6:43 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
