TV Shows - Pinky, Elmyra &the Brain

A retooling of the cartoon series Pinky and the Brain, this show added Elmyra from Tiny Toon Adventures to the mouse duo. After their laboratory is destroyed, Pinky and the Brain must flee from government forces. They wind up in Elmyra's home, now having to contend with her rough painful forms of affection and play. The decision to retool Pinky and the Brain was controversial, as the executives who took charge of the show wanted to make the show more like The Simpsons and less like Pinky and the Brain (despite Pinky and the Brain being a big success). Many of the staff were so put off by the idea of Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain that they left (in a cruel twist of fate, many of these writers wound up working for Warner Bros.' rival, Disney, helping make Disney's One Saturday Morning a larger success than Kid's WB). And despite Elmyra's originally being a member of Tiny Toon Adventures, her pets Furrball the cat and Byron the bassett hound were nowhere to be found, replaced by a different cat and a turtle named Mr. Shellbutt. Instead of going to Acme Looniversity as she did in Tiny Toon Adventures, she went to Chuck Norris Grammar School. Her new neighbor was the thickheaded bully Rudy Mookish, who resembled The Simpsons' bully Nelson Muntz (they were even voiced by the same voice actor: Nancy Cartwright). As would be predicted, the show was unsuccessful and aired for only 5 episodes. The remaining episodes were turned into segments for The Cat&Birdy Warneroonie PinkyBrainy Big Cartoonie Show, which was Kids' WB's attempt to compete with Disney's One Saturday Morning.
