Music Groups - Metallica

Metallica is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1981 when James Hetfield responded to an advertisement that drummer Lars Ulrich had posted in a local newspaper. The current line-up features long-time lead guitarist Kirk Hammett (who joined the band in 1983) and bassist Robert Trujillo (a member since 2003) alongside Hetfield and Ulrich. Previous members of the band include former lead guitarist Dave Mustaine (who went on to found the band Megadeth) and former bassists Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted. The band also had a long collaboration with producer Bob Rock, who produced all of its albums from 1990 to 2003 and served as a temporary bassist between the departure of Newsted and the hiring of Trujillo.

Let us not forget the awesome album they did... with Lou Reed about a year ago. Just more epic failure- here it is for free to listen to the trainwreck on youtube for a few minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z0GkrYAT78 -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on November 17, 2013, 12:31 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote

(m)etallica (small "m" is intentional) is the only music band I truly despise. There are many music acts Chubby don't like (Bieber, Any Country)- but for the most part (take Bieber for example) dude is lame bubblegum pop, and stayed... bubblegum pop. (m)etallica is deceptive, and left metal years ago, if they were even a real metal band to begin with. Now they use their ill-gotten metal wealth to force their way back into the scene- and continue to embarrass themselves. At this point, they have about 8 good years and over 20 lame years, were the 8 good years a hoax to hide the ultra lame that is (m)etallica? Really makes you wonder. I cant wait for them to force themselves back on Sirius XM's metal channel so they can be publically stoned by the metal community and the DJ's are stuck defending it as "they paid management for this, we didn't decide to play 24/7 (m)etallica for 3 weeks!" Was there ever a band that was so much fun, and was so easy to hate? Boned. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 7, 2012, 11:21 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't go out of my way to listen to Metallica songs but I prefer their Pre-Black stuff. There were a few songs, after Black, I didn't mind. But still overall it has been terrible. They ruined Unforgiven, 3 fold. -- Submitted By: (Jp) on June 7, 2012, 10:32 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

Again, it's just so bizarre that they even have fans left- what other metal band has to be constantly "defended" by themselves and their fanbase? I don't see Lamb of God, Slayer and Meshuggah having to tell people they didn't sell out. The work just speaks for itself. I wonder now if the early Metallica were just a complete act for the real "lame" soft core band to come out. And has anyone heard their new duos with Lou Reed? Wow. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 6, 2012, 5:21 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Haha, I can picture this kid now, sitting in some one-room crackerbox apartment, muttering to himself, "It's just a prank, it's just a prank..." still waiting for the "real" album to come out. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 5, 2012, 7:21 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I remember when Load came out, all my friends turned their backs on Metallica. Except for this one kid. He kept telling us that Load was just a "prank" and that the REAL album was going to come out in another month or two. Metallica was going to reveal the prank, laugh at anyone that liked it, and return to their former glory. Still waiting on that one. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on June 3, 2012, 8:58 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
So Metallica wisely goes back to thrash, but it's still corporate santized metal? -- Submitted By: (Googalslosh) on September 12, 2011, 3:32 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Metallica is synonymous with "selling out", when it comes to my friends. Speaking of copyrights, isn't it ironic how they once encouraged people to copy and bootleg their works, then turned around and sued when Napster did just that? -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 17, 2011, 2:16 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Soggy- that's the funny thing, Metal Fans are not their audience, so why force themselves onto the only all metal satellite station for 2 weeks almost 24 hours a day. Out of Touch businessmen is more to the point, and thanks for saying Metallica isnt Metal, because frankly, they are not. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 17, 2011, 1:45 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I wouldn't blame the vanillafication of Metallica's sound on Cliff Burton's death; And Justice for All was recorded and released a couple of years later, and it's a fine album. What pulled thema away from their roots was a new producer who didn't know jack shit about metal. Why they hired him in the first place, let alone kept him on the payroll for 20 years, is beyond me, aside from a clear desire for more mainstream radio time. I won't say that the band has sucked since then, only that they aren't a metal band and shouldn't be labelled as such. (And their "Let them eat cake" attitude toward the fans who made them EXTREMELY wealthy, as demonstrated by their stance regarding the Napster fiasco, proves they are businessmen first and artists second - in effect, that they see their music as a means to an end rather than as an end in itself. If they are happy to be viewed that way, good for them.) -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 17, 2011, 1:28 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
My unabashed hate for the former metal band known as Metallica is well known, and to continue to beat the fact that they are not metal, nor have they made a metal record since 1988 is fact, and they boned in 1991 is a cornerstone of selling out, and fish boning (sorry gang, Death Magnetic- corporate sanitized metal - is not unboning anything from these fakes) is just cruelty to fish at this point. HOWEVER- something new and fascinating to hate these guys just happened inside the metal community (sort of like the Napster fiasco to the general public) on Satellite Radio there is a 24/7 METAL channel- sort of the town square of the metal community (sort of like Headbangers ball used to be in the 90's) and they just announced "BIG FOUR RADIO" - sponsored by Metallica- to promote the Anthrax Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer show in Indio California in May 2011. The concept of the Big Four is the big four thrash metal bands of the 80's- so gues what happens- they play about 98% METALLICA while having the unabashed egocentric ballscalling it Big FOUR radio, while playing almost none of the other three- Only the ego obsessed sellouts of Metallica would make a group event called BIG FOUR RADIO and then completely hog almost all of the attention and airtime for themselves. Now for the most part they never play Metallica on this station, and the fans of actual metal hate Metallica these days. The facebook pages for Sirius, XM and the respective channel page were bombarded with about (you guessed it) 98% hate (similar to percentage of Metallica forced on the audience) to go along with the force feeding of metallica's warblings and interviews 24/7 FOR TWO WEEKS!! It warmed my heart to get a nice embarrassing incident from these clowns, and to see the unabashed hate from the community of fans they sold out on so long ago, and with their tone deaf ability to alienate and piss off their old audience, I am sure they felt it was a big success. Another repeat Fish Boning from ALternica, I mean...metallica. I cannot wait to see how they prove me right again soon! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 17, 2011, 5:23 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
