Music Groups - Waylon Jennings

Got his start as a DJ in Littlefield, TX and then became Buddy Holly's touring bass player. He narrowly escaped the infamous plane crash when he gave his seat up to The Big Bopper. Jennings went on to become one the biggest (if not THE biggest) artists in country/country-rock music. His collaboration with Willie Nelson in the 70's is "outlaw" legend. Sadly, Jennings died in 2002 from complications of diabetes.

2 Waylon Jennings cornered the market on "cool". Shunned by Nashville in the 60's and 70's, he didn't give a hoot or holler what anyone thought and did things HIS way. When everyone started taking notice and he would get nominated for something, he refused to attend any awards shows because he felt music should not be a competition. If you haven't read it, get his 1996 autobiography, "Waylon". He told things just like they were, no holds barred. RIP, Hoss. -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on April 21, 2010, 11:45 am - (6 votes) - Login to Vote
