never understood name changes like this and kfc. Are we only supposed to call it gsn? They aren't just random letters, we all know what they stand for. -- Submitted By: (phil610) on August 5, 2012, 6:36 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I remember loving this network years back, being able to watch Press Your Luck, Match Game, Family Feud, etc (I could get past the fact they didn't have Price is Right) Even the stuff they produced were game shows (albeit in some cases, crappy versions of what they tried to recreate), but now, very little game show, and mostly reality crap, or if it somehow is a game show, its absolute total garbage. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on November 16, 2011, 6:28 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
King, you couldn't be more right about this. All these themed channels have gotten further and further from their respective programming. As for GSN, I don't understand why improvaganza is even an option on this show. It's not a game show! I hope it isn't because Drew hosts PIR, that shouldn't even matter. I don't even bother with anything Springer does. Lingo being hosted by Bill Engvall is very ridiculous. Something tells me he's not exactly a master wordsman. (Kind of like how Foxworthy probably isn't smarter than a 5th grader.) I don't dislike him, out of all the Blue Collar guys Ron White and Bill are the better. Chuck was just the man for the job on that show. Who is going to replace Alex Trebek when he's done with Jeopardy? Oh, I know! Jimmy Kimmel! No, Carrot Top! Speaking of lame game show hosts, what's with the decline in real game show hosts these days? Every game show is now hosted by a mediocre or less Celeb. -- Submitted By: (Jp) on August 27, 2011, 8:26 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Another cable channel that lost its way. I remember as recent as 2006 when this was still a good cable network. Sure, by that point Price is Right was long off the channel, but it still had mostly classic shows and some really good originals like Russian Roulette. Now this channel has Baggage, which is one of the most disgusting programs I've ever seen. Jerry Springer and his "go for shock value" schtick is so 1997. If that sounds bad, you also have Wendy Williams and her trash bag dating show, Drew Carey and a watered down version of Whose Line called Improv-A-Ganza, overplayed reruns of Deal or No Deal, Lingo sans Chuck Woolrey, now hosted by redneck Bill Engvall and it plays up his perverted jokes, very few classics still on, and much more. This channel is a mess. I know the budget has been cut drastically and you can tell. The production values of the shows are about one level above public access and it's mostly just rerunning four programs in one day instead of a variety of programs. The last time I really liked the channel was when I wrote my last review of it, which was May 2010. It wasn't at its best, but it was still somewhat good. Now? I only can somewhat tolerate Lingo. I hold out hope it will bone back like it has before, but I'm not holding my breath. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 27, 2011, 2:02 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Good old Game Show Network bones and bones back more than any other topic: Boned: No more The Price is Right. How do you call yourself the game show network if you can't even show the longest lasting game show of all time??? Boned back: Got other classic shows on the schedule ($25,000 Pyramid, Press Your Luck, Let's Make a Deal, etc.) Boned: No longer on 24 hours a day. Boned back: They added GSN Live for interactive games. Boned: Became GSN, added reality shows, talk shows, and poker Boned back: Went back to a mostly game show lineup in a short amount of time Boned: Too much Deal or No Deal Boned back: Some good originals starting to come out (Catch 21, Russian Roulette, Lingo, etc.) -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on May 6, 2010, 7:59 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
