American Bandstand Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 what boned the fish was ABC wanted Dick Clark to shorted the show from a hour to half hour in '87... but Clark didn't wanted that way so he took to show to synication for a year and a half which it didn't hardly do so well cause of low ratings, music videos that was going on MTV, VH1 & BET at the time... so, Clark took the show to USA network in '89 that he retired as host and it was filmed outside at Universal Studios Hollywood, Clark's Replacement was David Hirsch... the version of the show lasted 6 months with the last episode October 7 1989. -- Submitted By: (justindavis) on December 22, 2010, 12:39 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I'm inclined to agree that the launch of MTV was the boning moment of American Bandstand. All the same, AB was worth watching for the nostalgia value. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 20, 2010, 1:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

4 American Bandstand was MTV before there was MTV. Top 40 acts come on to perform their latest songs while teenagers dance and Dick Clark does the interviews and gets the reviews. When MTV launched in the early 80s, American Bandstand lost its luster. Since people could watch their favorite Top 40 artists 24/7 (remember, at this point MTV was a music channel), people didn't need to tune in all the time. That's why I voted for the MTV launch as the boning the fish moment, because it lead to Dick Clark's departure and the show turned into a nostalgic relic of simpler times. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on May 14, 2010, 7:45 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
