Music Groups - Micky Dolenz

George Michael "Micky" Dolenz, Jr. (born March 8, 1945) is an American actor, musician, television director, radio personality and theater director, best known as the drummer and lead vocalist of the 1960s made-for-television band The Monkees. Dolenz began his show business career in 1956 when he starred in a childrens show called Circus Boy under the name Mickey Braddock. In the show, he played an orphaned boy who is the water boy for the elephants in a one ring circus at the start of the 20th century. The program ran for three years, after which Dolenz made sporadic appearances on network TV shows and pursued his education. He also played guitar and sang with obscure rock and roll bands, including one called The Missing Links. Dolenz went to Ulysses S. Grant High School in Valley Glen, Los Angeles, California and graduated in 1962. He was attending college in Los Angeles when hired for the drummer role in The Monkees.

1 The original closing credits for The Monkees pilot episode still have him being credited as "Mickey Braddock". I guess his old contract hadn't expired yet lol. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 24, 2012, 11:15 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Mickey Dolenz was always my favorite Monkee. He always seems to come off as a really likeable guy (I would hope he's like that IRL). I read his autobiography 'I'm A Believer' several years back. It was a really interesting read if you ever have a chance to pick it up. -- Submitted By: () on January 18, 2012, 11:30 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
3 It had to be a tough job to go from being a child actor, to an adult actor playing the part of a drummer in a band, to actually being in a band. He has a very distinctive voice and can play multiple instruments as well. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on January 17, 2012, 1:51 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
