Movie Series - Dirty Harry

Dirty Harry is a 1971 crime thriller produced and directed by Don Siegel, the first in the Dirty Harry series. Clint Eastwood plays the title role, in his first outing as San Francisco Police Department Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. Dirty Harry was a critical and commercial success and set the style for a whole genre of police films. The film was followed by four sequels: Magnum Force in 1973, The Enforcer in 1976, Sudden Impact in 1983 (directed by Eastwood himself), and The Dead Pool in 1988. In 2008, Dirty Harry was selected by Empire magazine as one of The 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.

1 Gene Siskel said that a cop movie is as good as it's villain. The core of most cop movies is tracking down the villain and if the villains are not credible then neither is the film. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on September 14, 2011, 6:11 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I agree with the last post (though Jonkaplanseaver uses the word "protagonist" where he should have used the word "antagonist"). It's no coincidence that the best movie in the series also had by far the best villain. In Magnum Force the bad guys were a set of traffic cops; in The Enforcer they were an SLA-style terrorist group. BO-ring. And Sudden Impact featured Clint's (minimally talented) psycho girlfriend playing a psycho rape victim turned murderous avenger. I can't even remember who the bad guy was in The Dead Pool. But Andy Robinson rocked as Scorpio - easily one of the best movie villains of all time. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 9, 2011, 9:16 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Eastwood's Dirty Harry was great, but you need a protaganist. Andrew Robinson supplied that, his followers didn't. -- Submitted By: (jonkaplanseaver) on May 9, 2011, 3:00 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
4 The sequels pale in comparison to the original. Hmmm...where have we heard this before. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on April 14, 2011, 9:43 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
