Music Groups - Cream

Cream were a 1960s British blues-rock band and supergroup consisting of bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton, and drummer Ginger Baker. Their sound was characterised by a hybrid of blues, hard rock and psychedelic rock, combining Eric Clapton's blues guitar playing with the voice and basslines of Jack Bruce and the jazz-influenced drumming of Baker. Wheels of Fire was the world's first platinum-selling double album. Cream is widely regarded as being the world's first notable and functioning supergroup. In over two years, they have sold over 35 million albums. Cream's music included songs based on traditional blues such as "Crossroads" and "Spoonful", and modern blues such as "Born Under a Bad Sign", as well as more eccentric songs such as "Strange Brew", "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and "Toad". Cream's biggest hits were "I Feel Free" (UK, #11),"Sunshine of Your Love" (US, #5), "White Room" (US, #6),"Crossroads" (US, #28), and "Badge" (UK, #18). Cream made a significant impact upon the popular music of the time, and along with Jimi Hendrix popularised the use of the wah-wah pedal. They provided a heavy yet technically proficient musical theme that foreshadowed and influenced the emergence of British bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and The Jeff Beck Group in the late 1960s. The band's live performances influenced progressive rock acts such as Rush, jam bands such as The Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, Phish and heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath. Cream was ranked #16 on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and Rolling Stone named them the sixty-sixth greatest artist of all time.

1 If anyone can actually find a reason NOT to like Cream, I would have to say they probably don't know good music to well. -- Submitted By: (Jp) on August 25, 2011, 8:05 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
2 These guys planted the roots to hard rock and heavy metal. They also quit while they were ahead. Never boned. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 25, 2011, 5:02 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote

4 Cream -> they fucking own whatever else you listen to. Four solid studio albums plus a few live and that's it. What Cream did right was to call it quits at their peak. When the band started to have issues working together, it folded and each member went on to make solid music with new collaborators. Many other bands change members or see one member gain all of the creative control and became a vehicle for them alone (glorified solo career), not Cream. If you miss them, though, go check out Mountain or West, Bruce and Laing. -- Submitted By: (TheObject) on March 9, 2011, 4:09 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
