Celebrities - Saddam Hussein

Saddam Hussein Abd al-Majid al-Tikriti 28 April 1937 - 30 December 2006)was the President of Iraq from 16 July 1979 until 9 April 2003. A leading member of the revolutionary Ba'ath Party, which espoused secular pan-Arabism, economic modernization, and Arab socialism, Saddam played a key role in the 1968 coup that brought the party to long-term power. As vice president under the ailing General Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr, and at a time when many groups were considered capable of overthrowing the government, Saddam created security forces through which he tightly controlled conflict between the government and the armed forces. In the early 1970s, Saddam spearheaded Iraq's nationalization of the Western-owned Iraq Petroleum Company, which had long held a monopoly on the country's oil. Through the 1970s, Saddam cemented his authority over the apparatuses of government as Iraq's economy grew at a rapid pace.

Saddam Hussein Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 I really wish my controversial comments here years ago would have been wrong. ISIS is a million times worse than Saddam ever was. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on September 28, 2014, 2:36 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Travoltron wasn't praising Saddam's atrocities. Iraq kicked out Farmer Jones and Napoleon took over. Farmer Jones was a cruel master, but Napoleon was just as bad as him, and eventually became worse. The Iraqis need a good leader, and fast. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on October 20, 2011, 1:09 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
3 I'd really, really like to believe that Iraq is better off now than it was under Saddam, but I'm just not seeing it. 4,477 Americans have died in Iraq and I wish there was something to show for it. Perhaps the Shiites have it better now, but everyone else has it much worse. See here for more info on the ongoing genocide of other Iraqi minorities: http://tinyurl.com/iraqminorities I feel that if the Iraqis really wanted Saddam out, they would have ousted him themselves. We saw the Eastern Bloc overtake their Communist oppressors in the late '80s and early '90s, so it obviously can be done. There were two events that made me realize the Iraq Invasion was wrong. 1) A few days after the U.S. troops ousted Saddam and liberated Iraq, the Iraqi ingrates started burning US flags and telling their liberators to GTFO. 2) When watching the video of Saddam's hanging, Saddam was cool and composed up to the end, whereas his executioners were whooping it up and jumping around like animals. And yes, he was a horrible person and I won't vote Never Boned for him. He boned when he got too arrogant wouldn't let those UN inspectors in. He basically signed his own death warrant by doing that. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on October 15, 2011, 1:50 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
4 The dumbest thing we did was kick Saddam out of power. Yeah, the guy was a tyranical dictator, but with him in power, there was a little more stability in the region. Looking back at it, we should of done our best to keep a weary eye on Iraq, but not done anything more, at least at the moment. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on October 14, 2011, 9:44 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Travaltron, What next? Do you think Mussolini was good for Italy because he made the trains run on time regardless that he did lots of atrocities to the lands he invaded and his own citizens ? Yeah, what's happening to many Iraqis is awful (and I especially am upset about the Iraqi Christians who've been around since at least the 1st Century AD and use Aramaic in their services- yes, the language Jesus Himself spoke on an everday basis). However; just because things aren't as good as we'd like doesn't mean they were BETTER under Sadaam. He was horrific to too many- up to and including his own grandchildren's fathers. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 14, 2011, 7:42 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
6 This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe the Iraqi people got the leader they deserved in Saddam. Middle Eastern culture is too primitive an backwards to handle democracy and needs an iron fist to keep the barbarism under control. You'll notice as soon as Iraq was liberated from Saddam, the first thing the people did after the celebrations died down was descend into sectarian violence. They also began persecuting all religious and ethnic minorities. These things didn't happen under Saddam because the terrorists actually feared him. Finally, please read this about the genocide of Iraqi Christians that's occurring thanks to the "regime change". http://www.raymondibrahim.com/9440/iraq-christians-persecution -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on October 14, 2011, 5:57 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

8 Okay, I'll bite. The lovely and charming Mr Hussein was born in April 1937. That would place his conception - and therefore his fish boning - at about July 1936. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 7, 2011, 1:44 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
