TV Shows - He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983)

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is an American animated television series produced by Filmation based on Mattel's successful toy line Masters of the Universe. It made its television debut in 1983 and ran until 1985, consisting of two seasons of 65 episodes each. Reruns continued to air in syndication until 1988. The show takes place on the fictional planet of Eternia, a planet of magic, myth and fantasy. The show's lead character is Prince Adam, the young son of Eternia's rulers, King Randor and Queen Marlena. Prince Adam is a seemingly cowardly, blond muscleman dressed in a pink-and-white chemise cote d'azur with perwinkle stockings and purple boots. However, Prince Adam possesses the Power Sword, and when he holds it aloft and says the magic words "By the Power of Grayskull! I have the Power!" he is transformed into He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. He-Man looks more or less like Prince Adam, except tanner, and wears a baldric and loincloth. Together with his close allies, Battle Cat, Teela, Man-At-Arms and Orko, He-Man uses his powers to defend Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor, a tyrannical warlord with a skull for a face. Skeletor's main goal is to conquer the mysterious fortress of Castle Grayskull, from which He-Man draws his powers. If he succeeds, Skeletor would be able to conquer not only Eternia, but the whole universe.

2 Someone recorded an early Mattel promo reel for the He-Man toyline that was shown recently at ComicCon and the animation here is 5x better than the actual show was. http://youtu.be/7QT8IoPDN_8 -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 24, 2011, 3:18 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Mattel can never use the name Fisto again because George Lucas stole the name for one of his lousy Prequel characters (Kit Fisto). Mattel had to call him "Battle Fist" in 2002 because of Lucasfilm and Hasbro. And I don't think GL would ever let a trademark lapse like Mattel did. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on December 9, 2010, 8:51 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

6 Update- Ive gotten into the third DVD release (last 13 episodes) of the 2002 -02003 Masaters of the UNiverse Cartoon series- how did this show get cancelled- it is one of the best kids actions cartoons of all time, and the story writing is complicated and layered like some of the good moodern TV drama's (The Shield and Breaking Bad?!?) If you havent seen this show- pick it up on DVD- amazing to see He Man and the Masters of the Universe be so freaking cool, in fact cooler than they ever were- the 2002 show unboned and de-fished everyhitng about He-Man!!! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on September 28, 2009, 8:07 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
7 MCS- what are you talking about the 2002 series was actually a tremendous improvement on the He-Man Franchise. It's a shame that it ended without a proper ending to tie things up, the animation studio was setting up Hordak to really come into his own on the show. If anything the 2002 series UN-BONED the franchise... -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 18, 2009, 6:15 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
8 He-Man never boned, but only if you look at the original cartoon as a stand-alone. The 2002 series was bad. Tela was unlikable, Orko's voice was annoying, Cringer didn't talk, and Prince Adam was a pansy. I did like the new Skeletor and Evil-Lynne but people should not mess with the classics. The live action movie was filmed too cheaply. As for the classic cartoon, yes, the fighting was unrealistic, but this was a kid's show. You cannot show a bunch of gratuitous violence in something like this. As for Orko, while he did provide comic relief, there was a lot of depth to that character and he was an essential part of the series. This movie should be released on the big screen and done right. Give it a PG-13 rating to make it more believable. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on June 18, 2009, 12:03 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
9 Never really had a bone moment, and the short-lived 2002 Cartoon Network revival only improved upon its predecessor. The live-action movie, however, is a different story. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on April 29, 2009, 4:51 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
10 "I am Adam, prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. This is Cringer, my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said, "By the power of Grayskull... I have the power!" Cringer became the mighty Battlecat and I became He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe. Only three others share this secret: our friends the Sorceress, Man-at-Arms and Orko. Together we defend Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor." -- Submitted By: (Hikariu) on April 1, 2009, 1:51 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
