Movie Series - Supergirl

Supergirl is a 1984 superhero film directed by Jeannot Szwarc, and stars Helen Slater in her first motion picture role in the title role of the DC Comics superheroine Supergirl. Faye Dunaway (who received top billing) played the primary villain, Selena. The film was a spin-off from the Salkinds' Superman film series which starred Christopher Reeve. The movie also featured Marc McClure reprising his role as Jimmy Olsen from the Superman films. The film failed to impress critics and audiences. Slater, however, was nominated for a Saturn Award for her performance by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The film does contain some expansions on the Superman movie mythology, such as taking the viewer into the Phantom Zone itself (in the first two Superman films, it was merely represented by a spinning square mirror). The story uses sorcery (a noted Superman weakness, but less commonly utilized than kryptonite) as a counter attack on Supergirl.

1 This movie was a giant vomitous turd that nearly blinded me,,,,I saw it when it came out on HBO in the eighties,,,,even as children, we realized this movie was BAD. Nothing makes any sense, and the villain/protagonist are too busy fighting over the dorky landscaping guy to pay attention to anything else,,,,this movie managed to somehow be offensive to both male and female audiences, to women for all the stereotyping, to men with all the "girly" stuff,,,,,,Helen Slater looks great in the costume, but that's about it as far as positives go,,,,,, -- Submitted By: (Arkady) on May 30, 2014, 11:19 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I think the only other role Helen Slater had (that I could think of) is when she was guest starring in Smallville as Clark Kent's bio mom Lor-El. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on June 7, 2011, 1:37 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 How is a movie that's even LESS fondly remembered by Supe fans than "Superman Three" considered a 'series'? I hope Helen Slater's life has improved since this debacle. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on June 7, 2011, 12:30 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Yeah, right around that time it seemed like Helen Slater was everywhere. I kinda had the hots for her and I don't even like blondes that much. Then she just fell off the planet. My problem I had with this movie was how much say-so with regard to product placement the corporate sponsors obviously had. It was so obvious it was laughable (Pepsi, Popeye's Fried Chicken- and there might have been others). I'm betting the director of Supergirl wanted to strangle whoever negotiated those deals. LOL! -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on June 6, 2011, 1:16 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Helen Slater...(drools). The funny thing is, I don't recall seeing her in anything after that even though as Helen Hunt's friend she should've been able to find *something*. But yeah, that movie was brutal. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 5, 2011, 6:41 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
6 I think the only good part of this film is Helen Slater as Supergirl but even she couldn't make this movie good. The plot are laughably bad and some characters like that Selena the witch are just equally laughably bad. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on June 5, 2011, 5:12 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
