2 Falling Skies gets misjudged due to the marketing hand not knowing what the production hand was doing. Before the series aired, the ads for it (particularly those shown in movie theatres) painted it as an FX-laden sci-fi action-style series. However, what the marketeers forgot is that TNT's tagline is "We Know Drama", not "We Know Action", "We Know Sci-Fi", or "We Know FX". On the production side, they went about making a pretty good (albeit somewhat slow-moving) character-driven drama series that happened to take place in the aftermath of an alien invasion. Consequently, when the show aired, fan expectations were enormously out of whack with respect to what was actually being delivered. In spite of that, the show was enough of a hit that TNT renewed it for a second season, to air in Summer 2012. I think TNT was caught a bit by surprise -- if they'd known the show would garner as many fans as it did, I think they would have loosened the purse strings a little for more FX. I wouldn't be surprised to see the second season have more FX, now that TNT knows they've got something worth spending a little more money on. Anyway, Falling Skies is best appreciated as a drama, but gets misjudged thanks to misguided marketing (similar to what happened to the Signs movie). The show still rocks; it's the marketeers who've earned their fish. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on November 1, 2011, 7:55 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
