OK, it's gotten to the point where Norman is dressing up like Mother, seeing her when she isn't there, and freaking everyone the hell out, especially poor old Dylan, who really has a soft spot for his loony-tunes kid brother. Norman has also admitted to himself and Mother that he wants to have sex with her. I will NEVER be able to see a Freddie Highmore movie again without thinking about Norman Bates! Charlie Bucket, you sick SOB! -- Submitted By: (jmac9909) on May 8, 2015, 12:39 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I was very skeptical of the whole prequel set a half century after the main story BUT it works! Just ignore the relationship to the classic movie and enjoy the show. The acting is very, very good and the story line is amazing as we watch sweet young Norman becoming more and more crazy and more and more fascinated by death and more and more obvious in his sexual desires for his mother. 3 This show is entertaining but you have to suspend belief and go with it, as it has to exist in an alternate universe where the movie was never made. -- Submitted By: (innerralph) on October 18, 2014, 9:18 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
A prequel set some 50 years later. Give me a break. This should have been set in the late 40 to mid 50's and should have been made in black and white. Putting this in a modern setting stinks! -- Submitted By: (bipinbarr) on August 19, 2014, 12:44 pm - (-4 votes) - Login to Vote
Wow, is this show kinky! Weird and disturbing doesn't even come close to describing it. Norman has a full on bone for his mom and likes to get cuddly with his brother when he isn't trying to murder him. So far the kid has killed his dad, his friend's dad, his teacher, and god knows who else. To see sweet young Freddie Highmore play a loony tunes sex-crazed serial killer is pretty disturbing. Just think, Charlie Bucket from Willie Wonka grew up to be Norman Bates! It really is a good show, Freddie is awesome and so are the people who play his mom and brother! -- Submitted By: (martymarty) on June 7, 2014, 8:37 am - (7 votes) - Login to Vote
Oedipus Rex meets Alfred Hitchcock. Seriously, young Norman Bates is in love and in lust with his mother, and she encourages him. This odd couple is so obvious about their feelings for each other that Norman's half-brother Dylan calls them Mr. and Mrs. Bates. Great show with a great cast. Freddie Highmore nails it as the strange, brooding, psychotic teen and Vera Farmiga is awesome as the sexy, slutty, manipulative momzilla. Norman comes off as a sweet, shy and awkward kid but has a disturbing habit of blacking out. Whenever that happens, someone nearby usually turns up dead. In an early episode we see him in one of these fugue states when he tries to murder Dylan by bashing his head in with a meat mallet. In a flashback, we watched as he crushed his step-father's skull with a blender. We also watched in horror as his sexy teacher seduced him, knowing she would end up very dead, which she did and our boy Norman lost all memory of the evening. Great show and well worth watching! -- Submitted By: (jmac9909) on April 11, 2014, 2:40 pm - (9 votes) - Login to Vote
