As with Scooby Doo, when they first appeared. Sad to see theatrical and very early television animators, background artists, layout people, voice actors, film cutters, musical directors and musicians, writers, et. al. and a once great (before reaching the USA) possibly excellent idea be turned into Care Bears/Pinky, The Brain and Elmyra/greeting card cutesiness.... sad. THIS from first hand, or, shall we say, first hoof, from a supporting player to Gumby who saw HIMSELF and Gumby and the gang retooled and ruined in 1987 for a new series of episodes..(and this after THREE...yep, count 'em, THREE Gumby series (plural) since the first batch (including 1955-56's "It's Howdy Doody Time" episodes). Granted, there IS Jokey, voiced by June Foray (who, like her boss, Jay Ward on Bullwinkle KNOWS something about true "'toon" comedy), but I'll stick with jay Ward. Hanna-Barbera? (They did this). Stick with the 1957-1964 stuff.. The Smurfs? Seek the Belgian Comics...(Though the movies seem to be much funnier and I love Katy Perry, as Smurfette..but I'll take the 1960s Hanna-Barbera, even some 70s cartoons. ) And as for the original Smnurfette Lucille Bliss, I'll stick with anything she did in the 60s or before (the original Anastasia in Cinderella by Disney.) -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on May 7, 2015, 10:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The "time traveling" season for sure, they were obviously running out of ideas by that point. -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on September 18, 2013, 8:44 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
They added too many new characters in, and not just with the smurfs, did Gargamel really need a annoying apprentice Scruple when he always had his cat Azrael to say his thoughts too? -- Submitted By: (Steakrich) on April 6, 2013, 2:59 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The final nail for the Smurfs were de-aging the original adult Smurfs characters into Smurflings. I don't know what they were thinking when they did that, because it ruin the Smurfs series big time. -- Submitted By: (boneman) on May 18, 2012, 2:26 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
The Smurfs boned when they de-age the original adult Smurfs characters Natural Smurf,Snappy Smurf,Slouchy Smurf into to Smurflings which pretty much ruin the original Smurf feel of the show and de-aging the AdultSmurf characters into kids was the final nail in the coffin the show. -- Submitted By: (boneman) on May 10, 2012, 12:50 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Either God's too busy with other things to smite this abomination, or there's a lesson to be learned by its release. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on July 24, 2011, 3:16 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
DolFan, I agree that movie sounds like a stinker (and I haven't forgiven whoever it was who made that "Rocky and Bullwinkle" live action movie). However; with ALL the stuff going on the world today, don't you think God has a LOT more important things to deal with on His Plate than whether or not yet another annoying movie gets released? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 20, 2011, 8:38 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
I just have one question: why is God making atheists the world over look smart by refusing to step in and stop this madness??? WHY GOD, WHY?!?! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 19, 2011, 5:43 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
At least have the Smurfs be in a Belgian city, such as Brussels or Antwerp. Then again, not quite accessible. -- Submitted By: (johnnydough) on July 18, 2011, 7:02 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The Smurfs in New York? wasn't they suspposedly live in the small town where the forest is at? Anyways that fact alone is boning the fish. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on July 18, 2011, 10:43 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote

I was going to say the same thing. Just watching the ads for it, you know the movie will suck. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on July 17, 2011, 5:02 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Speaking of the movie, I need to comment on the voices: in the cartoons, the Smurfs had squeaky voices. In the movie, their voices are normal or deep. Listen to Papa Smurf on the movie trailer and see for yourself. OK, his voice actor Don Messick passed away, but this new Papa sounds NOTHING like he did in the cartoon. He sounds way too gruff. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on July 17, 2011, 1:20 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Granted, not all episodes featuring the Smurflings were totally horrible (though the Smurflings were nothing more than blue Scrappy-Doos x4), but a show can bone and bone many times over the course of its run. The Smurflings were one of the first nails in the coffin. The time travelling season was just the final nail in the coffin for the Smurfs. It made the Smurflings seasons look like pure gold in comparison. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 28, 2010, 9:35 am - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
I vaguely remember seeing that last season and thinking it was a ripoff of Quantum Leap. IIRC, the Smurfs naver make it back to their own time, either. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 27, 2010, 8:11 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Many people will attest that The Smurfs began their boning when the Smurflings came along. I sort of disagree with that. IMO, some of the later season episodes had more colorful animation than the earlier seasons and made the show a bit more fun. Then more characters came such as Grandpa Smurf, Scruple (who was Gargamel's apprentice starting w/ Season 6 and IMO, MUCH smarter than Gargamel is), Nanny, etc. IMO, the penultimate BtF for the Smurfs was the dreadful 9th season, when instead of the series taking place in Smurf Village, they now began traveling through time. But why the need to collect crystals in every friggin' episode of that 9th season?! The other reason why, IMO the 9th season sucked was b/c they significantly downsized the number of some of the original Smurfs that were around in the previous seasons. By the 9th season, you can tell that the writers for this show was definitely running out of ideas and that The Smurfs were tired out by the time Season 9 came. -- Submitted By: (markiemark6891) on November 27, 2010, 6:55 pm - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
Holy $#^&, I thought I was going to puke when I first saw the CGI incarnations of the Smurfs. Good God almighty, why? Haven't the Smurfs been tortured enough with the Smurflings? With the impending arrival of this disgrace, it is now unfalsifiable: Hollywood's ultimate goal is to make CGI/live action versions out of every single cartoon, movie, game, etc. known to man. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on June 18, 2010, 5:12 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Anybody seen the new trailer for The Smurfs movie. Imagine the worst possible way Hollywood would botch it up. And that's how exactly how they did it. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on June 18, 2010, 2:37 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote

When we were younger, it was no big deal that Smurfette was the only girl Smurf. A few years pass, and her being the sole female Smurf gets people thinking... -- Submitted By: (Robert) on April 6, 2010, 2:49 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
