Never! Didn't even bone when they did a reunion movie in the late 1980s, because they did it right, getting ALL of the surviving cast members together. Only Fred Ziffel and wife had passed on by this time. Unlike "The Odd Couple - Together Again", which made the brilliant move of re-casting Murray The Cop and the other poker players apart from Speed, Green Acres understood we wanted to see the same actors playing the same characters. The plot was a little contrived, and there were many nods to how much time had passed (like the Gorby reference and Eb's teen-angst riddled son who liked "Guns & Roses"), but it was the first new Green Acres episode in almost 20 years. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on September 13, 2012, 3:48 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Joe Bag of Donuts, I liked your post here. I myself have subscribed to a third theory- that Oliver won the initial battle getting Lisa to Hooterville but Lisa has continuously won the war by adjusting to Hooterville via treating her fellow citizens like visiting dignitaries while Oliver keeps losing it (in every way possible) by being so condescending. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 14, 2012, 3:43 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
An absolute classic that never boned. A classic "fish out of water" formula with two theories. One was that since Lisa never wanted to move to the farm, she recruited the people of Hooterville to do what they could through bizarre behavior to drive Oliver crazy so that he would give up his dream of being a farmer and move back to the city. The second theory is that all of those things really did occur. Arnold the pig really did communicate with everyone. Mr Haney really did happen to show up with exactly what you needed on his truck. Personally, I like the second theory. It's a lot more fun. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on April 10, 2012, 1:19 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I loved this show as a child (my parents never cared for it), but I only developed a true appreciation for this show when I revisited it as an adult (college student). To echo what others have said, this sitcom was way ahead of it's time. I loved how it, in so many ways, poked fun at itself and had this seeming self-awareness of itself being a television show (ie: last portion of opening credits are superimposed over a scene of Lisa and Oliver sleeping in their bedroom. As the last name fades out, Lisa wakes up, sits up in the bed and awakens Oliver to tell him that she had just had the strangest dream. Oliver inquires about it and she continues 'I just dreamt that the name was floating above our bed'). The writers were also very skilled at taking a gag at the beginning of the show and repeatedly blindside you with it for the remainder of the episode and never wear it out (ie: the Hotcakes bubbling the tune 'Auld Lang Syne'). One of these days, I will probably buy a DVD set of this show (assuming it's available). -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on January 10, 2011, 10:35 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This show, without a doubt, one so far ahead of its time in the comedy world. The wordplay alone was comic genius, and sprinkle in all of the characters around Hooterville and Pixley, and they mined gold. When Lisa asked Oliver once on the show why she married him, and he answered, she replies "You said you married me because I reminded you of Za Za Gabor!" It was great when they incorporated the elements of the credits and other shows (i.e. The Beverly Hillbillies) into their own show, and what can be said about Mr. Kimble? Awesome! Well, maybe not awesome....pretty good, well....not "pretty" good, but good.....no, come to think of it...awesome.....well, there really is no thinking about it..yep, Awesome! -- Submitted By: (ScottHochlander) on September 20, 2010, 11:29 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

She fit right in with being the queen of grunge and all. she leave a ring around a pond if you throw her in. she make a good playmate for arnold the pig unless he sensitive to bad smells. -- Submitted By: (shanequia) on October 5, 2009, 9:45 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Since today's Earth Day, it's as good a time as any to salute this show! Why? Because it also happened to have been Eddie Albert's birthday and he himself really DID have green acres of his own with an organic vegetable garden in Los Angeles decades before it was trendy to do so! More importantly, he was instrumental in getting rid of DDT from the US after having seen its effects on sea birds while frequenting the California beaches. He was one of the speakers at the very first Earth Day back in 1970,too- and he would live to be a very healthy 99! But enough of the blah-blah! This show really ROCKED because it was in its own alternate universe where illogical logic ruled that Oliver never 'got' but that Lisa, the Hooterville denizens and we viewers enjoyed at his expense! Among my fave moments? When Lisa's visiting pet duck Lazlo started quacking at Arnold the Pig who oinked in response, Oliver commented that those two couldn't possible understand each other- to which Lisa said "Of course not. Arnold speaks English while Laslo speaks Hungarian!" What was also odd that it was set in the very same town as "Petticoat Junction" yet it was its staid sister show's cutting edge cousin! Think about it. The closest to anything odd happening in "PJ" was when the unimaginatively named Dog would seem to understand what the human characters were saying. And "Beverly Hillbillies" started out sharp with its country folk striking it rich and outsmarting the folks in Beverly but soon devolved into a live action cartoon! But even with all three shows characters knowing and interacting with each other, "Green Acres" was easily able to outpace the others. Heck, even Sam Drucker was a zillion times more offbeat when Lisa and Oliver visited in "Green Acres" than when Kate, Uncle Joe or the Bradley Girls did in "Petticoat Junction" -despite being in virtually every episode of both series! And he seemed to have much more fun with the Douglasses than he did on the other show! Two more footnotes: Pat Butram admitted that he based his character of Mr. Haney on none other than Colonel Tom Parker of Elvis fame who Buttram had (pre-Elvis) claimed to have seen him operate a carney stand that had dancing chickens ' who'd 'dance' as long as he pushed on a switch under the table that electrified the metal grid beneath the sawdust under their feet! And the 'Green Acres' farm in the opening credits? Long since disappeared under LA 'burb spread. Better take that penthouse view, instead. Happy Earth Day and Happy Birthday, Eddie/Oliver! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 22, 2009, 11:44 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This show was so far ahead of it's time. Most people underestimate the comedy they had on this show. Why are only the first 3 seasons on DVD? Release the rest now. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on April 16, 2009, 6:13 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
