TV Shows - Max Headroom

Really weird 80s show that featured a guy and his sentient avatar.

1 I found a weird disconnect with the whole thing about using manual typewriters as the keyboard for a computer, and yes, the big, clunky camera, even in the face of miniaturization, but if you are looking for old-school hard Science Fiction (not SyFy), then this is where to go. Every week, a new technology and the results of man rubbing up against it. Savory and tasty SF, with enough else going on to keep anyone vaguely interested. Ultimately, the irritating main character may have been the true demise of the show. -- Submitted By: (Tedward) on April 4, 2013, 7:38 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Max Headroom was surprising in its depiction of the future of television. It didn't get everything right (people now get more info from their personal computers than they do from any broadcast network) but they did foresee the advent of artificial intelligence and the importance of computer generated personalities decades before they were common. Also, they somehow knew that newscasters would still be lugging around those clunky betacam style cameras to do their broadcasts, and didn't miniaturize those as some might have expected. Matt Frewer, Amanda Pays and Jeffrey Tambor made a fantastic team, and of course the titular talking head Frewer embodied became an icon of the 1980s. -- Submitted By: (TheDeanofNYC) on August 25, 2010, 10:16 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
3 It will finally be possible to see Max headroom again, as the series is finally getting a DVD release this summer. I liked it a lot when it came out -- It will be interesting to see how it holds up 23 years later... -- Submitted By: (Eugene) on May 9, 2010, 11:36 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Max Headroom never boned, simply because it wasn't on long enough (two seasons, 14 episodes). I don't believe that they had a plot arc planned up-front, so I think that it would have boned had it gone on another season or two. -- Submitted By: (tlesher) on January 3, 2010, 3:11 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 I think they had a neat concept with CGI and the whole Matt Frewer thing going on, and tried to tie it all into a "William Gibson" Cyberpunk flair, but like you said- there was almost no substance to this show, just sizzle, and being 9 or 10 at the time, I was mesmerized. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 14, 2009, 11:03 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
6 Even back then, I didn't get the hype. He was okay for short periods (e.g. those cola commercials) but an entire show built around him?! Even more astounding was that he'd ALREADY had a show in Great Britain before his short-lived venture debuted on this side of the pond! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 14, 2009, 9:54 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
7 A really off beat show that I loved in the 80's, even though I didnt really understand it, but it was such an offbeat concept, I'm not sure anyone did! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 14, 2009, 7:20 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
