Random Topics - History (History Channel)

Starting in 1995, this cable channel originally showcased documentaries, original programs and occasional dramatizations all focusing on history. Not just the US's but of the entire world from the dawn of civilization to current times. Nowadays, it still occasionally has a program dealing with actual history but it more often seems to have programs about UFOs, ghosts, and every conspiracy theory that ever got laughed out of the local coffeehouse! Oh, and recently it changed its name to 'History' . Yes, just history. Perhaps, it would have been more apt to changed the name to 'The Channel'.

Good points, jp! I guess re "Ghost Hunters", it's on the Travel Channel due to the fact that flakes can travel anywhere if someone's pitching them something! Still, I MISS the days when it attempted to have halfway adult shows about history! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on November 5, 2011, 12:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Well damn, why would anyone think they should show history on the History channel. You are all nuts. lol. I've had hard time understanding what ghost hunting has to do with the Travel Channel. On location, I guess? -- Submitted By: (Jp) on November 4, 2011, 9:36 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
(), THAT is funny! At the same time, it's sad because it shows how History Channel's really lost its way. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 4, 2011, 7:14 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
They decided to not show the Kennedy miniseries because they felt "this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand". And then they air reality shows like Ice Road Truckers, UFO Hunters, Pawn Stars, World's Deadlies Roads..need i go on? -- Submitted By: () on November 3, 2011, 12:36 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Last time I checked, Ice Road Truckers isn't history. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on July 31, 2011, 8:34 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
They need to have a hardcore history network for viewers with decent-sized IQs, featuring reasonably deep programs about actual history - preferably heavy on pre-20th-century history - and move all that fluff programming to a History Channel Lite for those who require things to be dumbed down for them. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 6, 2011, 2:15 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Can they go back to actually showing history shows? PLEASE? -- Submitted By: (Northeastern292) on December 18, 2010, 6:40 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Day One! They have no fact checker and they don't care! It should be called the "Sorta History Channel". -- Submitted By: (BashebaGirl) on November 1, 2010, 6:15 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The last straw for me was during that farce known as "America: The Story of Us" I saw the co-founder of Wikipedia commenting on a historical event. -- Submitted By: (BAM) on May 16, 2010, 5:21 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
With Steph on that. Sure there are some shows that are good, but what do they have to do with history? -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on February 23, 2010, 4:05 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Even though I love the show "Life After People", why is that on The History Channel? It should be on Discovery. "Ice Road Truckers"? Really? How is that "historical"? It was so nice on Presidents Day to see the marathon of the various past Presidents' bios. Now THAT is history. -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on February 18, 2010, 9:09 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
internet_fan, 'Hysteria Channel'!? Absolutely spot on! Nowadays, it's like having to sift through a canyonful of useless, frantic screams just to hear an occasional whisper of genuine history! That's a rather brilliant tag, internet_fan! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on February 16, 2010, 12:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Too much Hitler!! They should have just renamed it The Hitler Channel -- Submitted By: (diezman) on November 20, 2009, 2:36 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't think it has yet, but it's trying. My main problem is that the shows aren't bad, but they don't belong. Monsterquest, Ice Road Truckers and the like are actually pretty good, but they feel more like Discovery/Science channel shows. -- Submitted By: (Johnny_T._Bird) on September 12, 2009, 12:35 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't think it ever has. Yeah, some of the newer shows don't really fit in, like, Ufo Hunters, MonsterQuest and Life after humans and the others, they probably belong on the Science or Discovery channels, but they are interesting and all around good shows. They mostly show History as well, but most of it has gone to the other History channels like "Hist. International". I don't know if the possible second Bone "The Hitler Channel" counts or not anymore due to the "Military Channel" being launched (Never really minded the WWII Documentary marathons myself, though). Still wonder what happened to some of the other shows that got pushed aside... like what happened to "Mail Call"? -- Submitted By: (Ken) on May 13, 2009, 2:12 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The History Channel has definitely passed the point of no return. There was a movie on it the other night. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on May 3, 2009, 7:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Sorry guys, but the History Channel has already BTF/JTS when they first became inaccurate with their history documentaries. Look at where they are now! Thank goodness I have never witnessed what the station is like now! (Only through the old JTS site, of course!) If I were to tell every history teacher in America that UFOs are considered real history, they would never forgive me! Peace. -- Submitted By: (SVN) on April 18, 2009, 9:20 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Th History Channel is close to boning. If they get just one more reality series they will. I wish some channel would have the courage to stop going on the reality bandwagon. I wish this craze would end. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 15, 2009, 10:32 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't think it BTF but I am getting a little tired of the series on Ax-men and Ice Road truckers, at least Nostradamus has something to do with history, I don't doubt that lumberjacks are a vital part of our economy but they are not making history. -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:52 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
