Movie Series - Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies

Looney Tunes is a Warner Bros. animated cartoon series which ran in many movie theatres from 1930 to 1969. It preceded the Merrie Melodies series and is Warner Bros.'s first animated theatrical series. The regular Warner Bros. animation cast also became known as the "Looney Tunes". Looney Tunes originally showcased Warner-owned musical compositions through the adventures of cartoon characters such as Bosko and Buddy. Later Looney Tunes shorts featured popular characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester, Tweety, Marvin the Martian, Taz, Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner, Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam, Pepe Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, and many others. Originally produced by Harman-Ising Pictures, Looney Tunes were produced by Leon Schlesinger Productions from 1933 to 1944. Schlesinger sold his studio to Warner Bros. in 1944, and the newly renamed Warner Bros. Cartoons continued production until 1963. Looney Tunes were outsourced to DePatie-Freleng Enterprises from 1964 to 1967, and Warner Bros. Cartoons re-assumed production for the series' final two years. From 1942 into the 1960s, Looney Tunes was the most popular short cartoon series in theaters, exceeding Disney and other popular competitors.

1 These PC people want more racial diversity on TV yet they want to censor any cartoon that shows people of a racial background because they are often depicted as racial stereotypes. The ironic thing is that with these scenes cut out, it turns out that these old cartoons end up with less diversity than before. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on July 5, 2010, 7:03 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I watch Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies cartoons for one thing - THE CARTOONS. I watch for entertainment value, I don't analyze it down to the last millisecond and complain how this and that is racist. It's more proof the PC crowd has no sense of humor and can't live life without ruining it for everyone else. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on July 5, 2010, 12:54 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
3 You know, I grew up with these cartoons, and I didn't grow up thinking Warner Bros.' depiction of various ethnicities was accurate. They were just cartoons. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 4, 2010, 8:54 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
4 I just read up on the "racism" speech by Whoopi on the DVD's, what an obnoxious piee of politically correct nonsense. Thanks Whoopi, now go wear blackface with Ted Danson. These Cartoons rule, go back to your PC fortress in Hell... Whoopi. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 15, 2009, 8:49 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 The cartoons are great, but the series jumped once the higher ups decided to go PC and open one of their DVDs with Whoopi Goldberg warning about how "racial caricatures" are wrong . Some things aren't about race, and even if these cartoons were racist (very unlikely) in today's multicultural society people are far less likely to see race in something as simple as a cartoon. (Save for the Jesse Jackson crowd.) -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:47 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
