TV Shows - American Dad!

American Dad! is a satirical American animated series owned by Underdog Productions and Fuzzy Door Productions and produced in association with 20th Century Fox Television. It was created by Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, as well as two former Family Guy writers, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. The basic character structure is similar in both shows: a family consisting of a husband, wife, daughter, son and two "off" characters. However, American Dad differs from Family Guy by using almost no Cutaway Gags. The pilot episode aired in the United States on Fox on February 6, 2005, thirty minutes after the end of Super Bowl XXXIX; the regular series began May 1, 2005, after the season premiere of Family Guy. American Dad! follows the events of CIA agent Stan Smith and his family.

2 horrible since minute one. i cant express how much i was excited another show from the creator of family guy was at the time, and immediately i realized how bad all of his franchises are. -- Submitted By: (VeritechRyan) on October 19, 2010, 10:42 pm - (-5 votes) - Login to Vote
3 I didn't have high opinions of AD at first, but I watched the Season 1 box set and before I knew it, I found myself enjoying it. American Dad has indeed gotten better while Family Guy hit the skids. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 4, 2010, 9:10 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Seth's best show at the moment. It's actually got better as Family Guy got worse. I rather spend my money on AD DVDs than FG anyday. Roger is the best character and he really makes the show. I can see why some might find him annoying but I think he's funny as hell. I hope that koala isn't around much longer though because he really isn't funny. Hopefully this show will carry on getting better and not go the way of FG. -- Submitted By: (cfc2011) on October 4, 2010, 2:17 pm - (5 votes) - Login to Vote
5 I think the show at first was a clone of Family Guy (clueless, boisterous father figure, shady but present mother, awkward geeky son, blah sister, talking animal, effeminate weirdo) but the show's gotten stronger as it's gone on. It's actually kind of refreshing. I still don't like some of the plots, though. Family Guy's a stronger show still, and probably always will be. -- Submitted By: (SamuraiPanda201) on December 13, 2009, 9:45 pm - (-3 votes) - Login to Vote
6 I actually kind of like this show myself. I just started watching it not long ago, so I'm still trying to figure out who everyone is, and there parts on the show. but for the most part, I think it's pretty good. and it fits in nicely with the rest of the Sunday night "Animation Domination" lineup on Fox. -- Submitted By: (Riley2009) on April 16, 2009, 12:05 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
7 Perhaps my politics prevents me from being objective but I just don't think an(nother) entire series dedicated to bashing middle America and family values is necessary. I'll never understand of McFarlen became so popular... well I have a few theories but they don't fit in with the context of this site. -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:37 pm - (-4 votes) - Login to Vote
