Let's compare... Cable TV. Before it, the "Free TV" that was around only consisted of a few channels of limited programming. Cable TV opens up all sorts of possibilities and to different sorts of programming not normally available on the networks. YouTube: Don't pay for anything, and pretty much view what you like... Then they add a pay sites for certain "channels" one subscribes to... Yeah, that's going to go over well in some areas. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on May 12, 2013, 11:50 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Youtube has now launched a "paid subscription" plan, where, for certain channels (listed here: http://www.youtube.com/channels/paid_channels), you have to pay a monthly fee to view the content. I have a feeling that all those channels that require you to pay to subscribe will see their subscriber count drop. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on May 10, 2013, 9:52 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT! If YouTube was a building instead of a website, 99% of their budget would go to deconstruction and reconstruction. There wouldn't be nearly enough bricks or mortar in the world! -- Submitted By: (Robert) on December 23, 2012, 1:03 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The thing I hate most about the new Youtube layout is it's homepage. For one thing, the default tab is "what to watch" (a.k.a. videos that Youtube recommends for you based on your viewing history), when it should be "my subscriptions." I also don't like how, when you first click on the "my subscriptions" tab, it gives you all the activity from the people you're subscribed to (i.e. videos they upload, like, favorite, etc.), instead of just the videos they upload, which I think should be the default. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on December 18, 2012, 4:12 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Youtube is getting worse and worse, not only they change the layout without any warning, they forces you to login by typing in your full gmail address instead of your youtube username. Bad enough you gotta have your gmail just to get a youtube account but now they forces you to type your gmail adress to login now. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on December 11, 2012, 7:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Geez...just when I'm getting used to the format that I admit I complained about in my last entry about YouTube, they up and change the format/look AGAIN. The way it looks now...a picture of it should be put next to "eyesore" in the dictionary. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on December 9, 2012, 8:24 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Well, Youtube has changed their design again. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on December 7, 2012, 12:50 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Commercials playing before videos. I know they need to find some way to pay for the site but seeing the same trailer for a movie or some really annoying commercial repeatedly is annoying and has me wanting to click on the skip commercial button as soon as it will let me. -- Submitted By: (ExplodingConsole) on July 15, 2012, 11:54 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I agree with you guys about copyright rules & with them constantly taking down videos due to that. It's completely stupid. Though if you REALLY want to blame someone for this, blame the Senate, House of Representatives, Congress, the Government, for making the DMCA bill (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), & blame Bill Clinton for signing it into law. @Cartooner: Oh yeah, the ads, they're VERY annoying. I'm currently using Google Chrome, & even though I have Ad-Block Plus activated, some ads will STILL pop up. -- Submitted By: () on February 10, 2012, 12:45 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
All I really care about is, can I type in a video, and a reasonable list of videos come up?!? If so, I'm cool with that. I really haven't paid attention to what has been on the front page of YouTube at all -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 6, 2011, 10:45 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Good LORD that homepage is a mess now. And not only that, when the change was made it forced me to actually have to sign back in even though I never signed out!!! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on December 6, 2011, 7:00 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Saw the new homepage as well - not only does it look harder to navigate, but it's hardly appealing to view. Looks like the ones behind this decision obviously never learned the maxim "If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT." -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on December 2, 2011, 7:12 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Youtube has changed its homepage again! Now it looked even more harder to navigate than before. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on November 30, 2011, 10:59 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Ugh. I've suddenly been inundated with copyright infringement notices in just a few short days, all coming from the same alleged copyright holder I've NEVER HEARD OF. And there doesn't seem to be much I can do to claim fair use short of hiring an attorney. I mean, if freakin' Lady Gaga gets her videos pulled and account deleted, what chance do I have? Somebody in Sweden or somewhere that doesn't have such totalitarian copyright laws should start their own video sharing site. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 22, 2011, 3:14 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I have a bit of advice to anyone who's annoyed with the ads on Youtube (and other websites): There is an add-on for Firefox and Chrome called Adblock Plus. If it works, it will block every ad on the webpage you're on (including video ads). I've had it for about 9 months, and I've almost forgotten that Youtube has ads. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on August 9, 2011, 9:24 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Lady Gaga got slapped by YouTube's copyright Nazis. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110714/13510015095/youtube-kills-lady-gagas-youtube-channel-copyright-violations.shtml -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on July 16, 2011, 5:15 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
If that happens, we'll visit other sites where you can watch videos. If YouTube becomes Hulu 2, that's going to be the final nail in the coffin, chucked into Davey Jones' locker. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 17, 2011, 2:00 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I remember the old youtube when you post any video you want and not have to worry about being banned for copyright infringement and ads on the videos. But now Youtube is really stupid is on this copyright and commerical crap! You can't even make a satire, parody or youtube poops by using some 30 sec clip from the movie/tv or even singing some cover songs without them disabling your account even you declare fair use. They don't even take down the videos you flagged you find offensive fast enough or not at all but some clip that has 5 seconds of WMG music on the background music, they have no problem taking that down in 30 seconds. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on May 16, 2011, 4:20 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
I have a feeling YouTube is going to morph into a form of Hulu where you can watch TV shows, music videos, etc. for a small subscription fee. It's already starting to take that form with the overabundance of commercials. The original purpose, a place for people to make their own videos, is slowly being phased out. As with most things in life, it comes down to the almighty dollar. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on May 16, 2011, 10:53 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I downloaded the Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox months ago, so the ads are no longer a problem for me. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on May 15, 2011, 7:40 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
