TV Shows - America's Funniest Home Videos

America's Funniest Home Videos (often simply abbreviated to AFV, though it was previously AFHV), is an American reality television program on ABC in which viewers are able to send in humorous homemade videotapes. The most common videos usually feature slapstick physical comedy arising from accidents and mishaps. Other popular videos include humorous situations involving pets or children, while some are staged practical jokes. The show is based on the Japanese show Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-chan (aired on Tokyo Broadcasting System).

Another thing with the cute oozing baby videos. They are usually videos that are 10 or 15 years old, so when they put the video up and it wins, it almost always means you have the kids on the set to, 10 or 15 years older, and you can tell they are all embarrassed to hell. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 12, 2012, 3:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
A lot of the winners on this show appeared (to me, anyways) like they were selected based on their 'cute' factor.. sorry this isn't America's Most Adorable Home Videos, it's Funniest.. I remember seeing videos on this show that were actually funny and more worthy to be selected winners. And what's with the ska music they still use for this show? Wasn't that popular in the late 90's? They need some different theme music. -- Submitted By: () on January 12, 2012, 10:50 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I always was suspicious that the clips were staged, especially after seeing an old lady eat a fly that landed in her pudding. Why would anybody film someone eating unless they knew something weird was going to happen? -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on January 9, 2012, 11:58 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Some of the dumbest videos I recall won the $10,000 prize. One of them was a woman falling off a horse - the only thing that allegedly made it funny was some snarky remark. It still didn't make it funny to me. There was another one I hated and yet it still won - some kid crying his eyes out over a loose tooth. WHAT THE @#$% IS SO DAMN FUNNY ABOUT THAT?! What the hell have the judges been smoking to decide something like that deserves a shot at $10,000? -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 9, 2010, 3:37 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
If the people who watch this show think it's funny, God help America. -- Submitted By: (JustLooking) on October 8, 2010, 7:49 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Granted a shot to the pills is always funny, however not when accompanied by the stupid narration of a has been/never was failed standup comedian from another crappy TV show. If you have to add your own commentary to make a video funny, chances are it's not that funny. Also sick of the baby vids winning all the time. This show was a great concept but the direction it took sucks. -- Submitted By: (squrrelco3) on June 2, 2010, 11:02 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Cute babies, crazy pets and shots to the private area have all lost their comedic value. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on May 5, 2010, 5:33 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
But at least the family pet videos are, for the most part, far more interesting than the cute little babies that do something ANY cute baby does. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on May 5, 2010, 3:06 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Babies. If it's not them, it's the family pet. -- Submitted By: (ElBlocko) on May 5, 2010, 9:19 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This show is still great to watch. It definitely got close to boning when they dropped Bob Saget and tried to be hipster, and occasionally their choices for the top three aren't even close to being the funniest For example, when people film billboards. The Jesus sign next to the sex billboard? Yeah it's ironic. That's probably why they put it there, idiot. Still, it's a good hour of tv. And to respond to some claims made in the comments: YouTube sucks in comparison because it has no filter for the tons of idiotic, unfunny people who post a seemingly unending stream of nonsense to the site; Some of the videos are definitely staged, but citing a dog dressed in a silly outfit as one where the creators intended us to believe that the dog dressed itself? Come on. A better example would be the video of the hawk that swoops down and eats the kid's mouse (which I believe won some money) or the video where the kid drives the toy fire truck away and it snags the table cloth making a mess (a direct ripoff of a commercial that was on tv at the exact same time. I think it also won money); Finally, the votes for serious injuries? A quick google search didn't result in any actual evidence of serious injury. I did however find many sites and blogs written by crybabies that make a leap of assumption that when so-and-so trips and falls, they were immediately rushed to the hospital while their good for nothing family tried to profit off of their injury. Likewise, another unlikely leap would be for these folks to lighten up. -- Submitted By: (tucsonspeed6) on April 9, 2010, 10:01 am - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
Which one won the jackpot, the kids crying over the spider, or the kid coloring his face? -- Submitted By: (Robert) on February 23, 2010, 1:16 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Me and my girlfriend (ok, maybe just my girlfriend) decided to watch this the other day, and yet more proof of the oozing cutefests of baby videos winning. A few genuinely funny videos were shown over the course of the episode, and one ok one was chosen as the three to choose for the best video for that episode, up against a couple of toddlers who were scared their parents were going to kill a spider, and wanted it released, and some toddler who decided to use permanent marker on his face, and call himself a clown. Guess what two videos finished 2nd and 1st. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on February 23, 2010, 3:46 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I generally agree with the option that mentions that the show is mainly out-of-date. It was nice and entertaining back in the 1990s, but the internet (and mainly YouTube) sent this show the way of the dodo. Why mail in your videos and hope that it gets aired once on TV when you can upload them to the internet and control its distribution? Same goes vice-versa for the viewer. I don't need to tune in and waste an hour of my time watching funny home videos when I can just log onto YouTube and watch them whenever I am bored. -- Submitted By: (Runfromcheney) on February 19, 2010, 10:29 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'd like to know who PICKED these videos! For the most part, I thought they were juvenile, tasteless, unappealing and NOT funny. I don't CARE what the ratings of this show were, other folks watching has NOTHING to do with whether I personally think something's funny! Oh, and don't get me started on Bob Saget and Dave Coulier. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on February 18, 2010, 9:35 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Goddam babies! I know they're cute and I know that the parents and families think they're funny, but if you've seen one baby blow spit bubbles or burp, you've seen them all. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Agreeing with the Baby Videos always winning. Sure, there is one or two that are actually funny, but for those one or two, there seems to be thousands that are nothing more than oozing cutefests. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 3, 2010, 3:13 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Normally, Grandma slipping and falling off the roof is tragic. BUT! When Grandma slips (whoooOOOP!), falls down (doop de doop de doop!) and breaks her hip (boinngngngngng!) Bob Sagat: "Help, she's fallen and she cant get up!" - that does go a long way. What would normally be on the next "I Shouldn't Be Alive" or "Rescue 911" or "Extreme Videos" or "Most Shocking Moments" ... can now be aired on America's Funniest Home Videos to be laughed at by the whole family!!! -- Submitted By: (KaseyAkira) on November 28, 2009, 2:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Even when it was in its current run in the early 1990s (with host Bob Saget), I despised this show. I always thought Saget's lame voiceovers of the videos was pathetic and his jokes to the audience were even worse (maybe Bob Saget just isn't funny - that's it). Later, after a series of moronic hosts, they came up with Tom Bergeron (who seems to be on every other program now), which is a bit of an upgrade compared to Saget (who is evidently doing "adult" comedy). That still leaves the ridiculous videos to deal with, however, many of which (with the possible excetion of weddings) are obviously staged for the show. I mean, after all, who is going to have a recording device set up for all of these occurances? -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on July 16, 2009, 10:54 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
