TV Shows - Boondocks, The
The Boondocks is the American animated television series created by Aaron McGruder for the Adult Swim programming block of Turner Broadcasting's Cartoon Network, based upon McGruder's comic strip of the same name. The Boondocks is a social satire of American culture and race relations (or stereotypes in the world), revolving around the lives of the Freeman family - ten-year-old Huey, his younger brother, eight-year-old Riley, and their grandfather, Robert. The Freeman family, having recently moved from the South Side of Chicago to the peaceful suburb of Woodcrest, Illinois find different ways to cope with this acute change in setting as well as the drastically different suburban cultures and lifestyles to which they are exposed. The perspective offered by this mixture of cultures, lifestyles, and races provides for much of the comedy in this series.

The Boondocks has some epic moments but suffers from recuring lameness probably due to the FCC.
I've got to go with reason 4: Wayyyyyy to P.C. Even if that was meant as a joke, it is still very PC for a show trying to be super edgy.
If you are going to show racism, show racism. If you are going to show violence, show violence. If your going to tell a mean joke, tell a mean joke. They do all this once in a while but not often enough to make the show watchable.
Huey, Riley and Grandad are barely cognizant of the fact that they are very light skinned and wealthy. Their experience is nowhere close to the desperate scrape of the lower classes that they identify with.
Ruckus is comic relief but crawls on his belly too much in the presence of white people.
Tom is way to square, even for a laywer.
Overall, the characters are too much formula and not enough development.
The concept of the show has high potential but is unlikely to reach it because its contract would get revoked for some or all of the following:
-Joking about corrupt Jews running most of the world media and banking systems. Using that control to pit the other races against each other and uncorrupted Jews. White or Eastern European Jews being racist to Black Jews; etc.
(This is a racist show based on stereotypes. But you just can't make some jokes in the mainstream media can you?)
-Joking about White people who like Black people but only in small doses or at a "safe" distance. (Any of the White neighbors plus Tom and his wife Sara could seemlessly fit into such a plot line. So could the Freeman's.)
-Interracial violence as a complex story line (Graphic depictions of criminal behavior by Blacks, Whites and Hispanics; innocent people being tormented by once innocent victims of racist abuse who have, after long years of said abuse, turned into racist vigilantes. Show Whites, Blacks and Hispanics as recipients as well as perpatrators.)
-Rich people of all colors exploiting cheap immigrant labor while pretending to be "making the world a better place" and saying "I'm not a racist. See I'm giving poor immigrants a chance at a better life." Then show uber rich Mexicans and US Americans laughing it up about how much money they make off that scam.
(I believe they touched a bit on this subject in one episode.)
I get the feeling that the writers of the show both know how to tell and want to tell these kinds of stories. For some reason they do not and the show suffers greatly for it.
It seems like someone who controls what gets watched won't let them. -- Submitted By: () on April 28, 2013, 9:30 pm - (0 votes)

I have mixed thoughts about the Boondocks. The episodes are okay, but there are times I can't stand either Riley, Huey, or both. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 20, 2010, 1:16 pm - (-1 votes)

I think the "Cartoon Network" is racist against having actual cartoons on at this point since they have more "live action" programming on every day! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on November 9, 2009, 3:27 am - (-1 votes)

Never boned at all. In fact, Adult Swim (as much as I love them) I think is kinda racist for having the one black show on the whole network only shows the Boondocks once a week and only one episode. Even on the website, the Boondocks only has one episode every week at a time. I personally love the Boondocks, there was no reason for it to go off the air. With classics such as the R.Kelly trial and Gangstalicious, it was gold. There's no way something could bone that was never really given a fair chance. -- Submitted By: (LauDor08) on November 8, 2009, 10:57 pm - (-1 votes)

Racist, my foot. The show skewered Black Entertainment Television (BET) on a number of occasions, such as the Peabody Award-winning episode "Return of the King." Its main character (Huey Freeman) hated any media that pandered to stereotypes about African-Americans being materialistic, extravagant and/or ignorant. If you wanted me to point out a black-oriented show that was racist, I'd point out "Homeboys From Outer Space" and "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer" (both UPN sitcoms from 1996, both of which were severely and justifiably criticized). -- Submitted By: (markrabo) on October 23, 2009, 4:27 pm - (0 votes)

The most racist show on TV, taking the already racist comic and ramping it up ten notches. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 10, 2009, 12:31 am - (1 votes)
