SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series and media franchise. It is currently Nickelodeon's, and is among Nicktoons Network's most-watched shows. In 2007, TIME magazine named it one of the greatest television shows of all time. Although its original network is Nickelodeon, SpongeBob is now broadcast around the world. It was created by artist, animator and former marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg, and is produced through his production company, United Plankton Pictures, Inc. It is the second longest-running Nicktoon, next to the Rugrats.

That one episode where Sandy misses Texas. What the hell was that?! But the worst episode of all time is the "Lost Episode". What so bad about it? Well for the first 10 minutes that gay pirate is looking for the tape of the "Lost Episode". He has to look at a map, with his stupid bird, I don't really know what is happening I was too busy trying to commit suicide. Then the gay pirate finds the tape and they show it. On the tape they show Sponge Bob walking down the street for a good 3 minutes (during this time I was getting my rope so I can hang myself). Then the pirate freaks out and says he hates Sponge Bob then the dumb bird tells him not wasn't the real episode then they finally they show it! -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 25, 2014, 2:59 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
WHERE DO I BEGIN? First, I don't even understand why anyone even gave this show a chance after season 5 ...B the show, ACTUALLY, started boning during end of Season 3 (although that season had some of the BEST episodes, i.e. "Wet Painters" & "Krusty Krab Training Video"), with episodes like (ESPECIALLY) "I Had an Accident", "Doing Time", and that "special" episode, which should have STAYED "lost." Now, the movie was pretty good, but I had noticed that his voice was this falsetto-sounding, attempt at being higher-pitched. And by season 4, you could, definitely, hear the vocal change, and the animation seemed creepier (like, w/ that old woman from the "Where's Gary?" episode) ..Plus, you used to see the characters make these funny, exaggerated faces now & then (Squidwards "serious" face, and Spongebob's face, when he realized that Squidward liked Krabby patties), but now, the faces are TOO often, and TOO disturbing! Every second, Spongebob is making some exaggerating, disturbing face, that it's taking away from his cuteness (he used to be adorable to me, and now, he just appears "neurotic" and kinda creepy). Mr. Krabs, now, is just as evil as Plankton (if not more), when, before, he was just that cheap, and loved making money (like most businessmen..lol). Sandy is this know-it-all scientist (does she still love playing karate w/ Sponebob?) And Spongebob was naive, like a child, but not DUMB - Patrick was dumb (funny dumb - not ANNOYING dumb!), and now, he's just a bag of rocks ...and Squidward is being victimized to the point where I HATE Spongebob & Patrick, and wanna see Squidward hurt 'em! ..and these scenes & images are too disturbing, like "handsome" Squidward, Spongebob having a disgusting splinter, Sandy removing her skin, "Face Freeze", and, worst of all ..that HORRIFIC scene, where Squidward's toenail gets ripped out! (I never, fully, watched these episodes, but saw 'em in a list, on ytube - I stopped, regularly, watching this show, after season 4 disappointed me) -- Submitted By: (Lashid4u) on August 19, 2013, 4:38 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Yes, this was once quite a clever show. Before the movie, SpongeBob was a nice, well meaning guy stuck kind of in a "man-child" bubble, who was just misunderstood by his fellow sea people in the earlier episodes. Sure he screwed up every once in a while, but you could relate. Patrick was sorta dumb, but he wasn't obnoxious and pulled off the comic-relief quite well. Sandy was a kickass Texan squirrel whom I could never figure out if she moved to Bikini Bottom for kicks, adventure or study. Squidward was the constantly crotchety, jerk next door neighbor who really just needed some company who could sit through his *ahem* "art" and "music". Krabs was like a (grand)father figure to SpongeBob I always felt; when he wasn't trying to rob him blind of his paycheck, though you could tell he wasn't cruel, he just had a money fetish. Plankton was just there for ironic humor. I remember the elderly "Aquaman + Lad" knock off characters, Mrs. Puff, Krabs' daughter (Why is she a whale?), etc. but they are minor characters' so I'm leaving them out this time around. At the end of the 3rd season this show went to crap. I think it went downhill when they made a "special" about SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward as cavemen (Didn't they already do that in the first season anyway with Squidward's time machine?). The movie (Which I remember not even being that great) was the final nail in the coffin. The 4th season is where this show died. The animation during the 4th season got pretty flat and just looked poor in contrast to the previous episodes. They recycle plots and have run out of ideas, but the worst offender of all IMO: The characters became caricatures of their former selves, like they did to Flanders' on The Simpsons. SpongeBob and Patrick become complete idiotic morons to the point of it not even being funny anymore. Basically becoming a danger to themselves and everyone around them, just by "attempting" normal tasks. Squidward became the shows' victim character. Again, before he was the jerk next door, now he's living in utter hell every day of his life. I actually feel bad for the guy now!!! Why hasn't he gone on a serial killing spree on the now ever annoying SpongeBob, Patrick and Krabs yet? Krabs is a villain now it seems, only caring about money, and not Sponge or Squid's well beings' on the job. He's not even a mentor to Sponge anymore. Everyone else seems to have not changed that much, but these changes killed the show. I think this is a show that intended to wrap up with the film, but the network exec's, whom make Mr. Krabs look like a reformed Ebenezer Scrooge it seems, said NO to rake in more dough, so new writers, new artists, the show looses it's charm as the old staff have moved on or quit. RIP SpongeBob... They need to quit milking this sea cow dry! Then again, it is just a cartoon. So long as it keeps the children occupied for 22 minutes, it doesn't matter(?) -- Submitted By: () on July 3, 2013, 12:31 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Then again, this is Nickelodeon we are talking about. Take something that has become super-popular, hijack it, and milk it. Sometimes, it's near instantaneous (see Ren & Stimpy), sometimes, it might take a few years (Rugrats). It's a stupid fun show to watch when nothing else is on, but yeah, the earlier stuff is MUCH easier to watch. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on April 28, 2013, 12:51 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The "After the movie" reason mentions about how "Derek Drymon was forced to keep it going," but I think Paul Tibbitt should get just as much blame (if not more), since he became the showrunner after the the movie, and, if I'm not mistaken, became executive producer in 2007. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on April 26, 2013, 1:08 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I sat through a few newer episodes...they're really out of ideas. The plots are either lame (Gary meowing nonstop throughout an episode for snail treats), predictable (I was able to guess what would happen 9 out of 10 times. No joke!), or recycled from past episodes (Squid Baby was just Goo Goo Gas where only Squidward turned into a baby). In regards to a previous post mentioning Simpsons parallels, there are plenty: the stupid character who gets stupider with each passing season. The stupid character's progressive stupidity so overly forced as to be ridiculous. All the characters getting stupider. Digital ink and paint making the animation go from fluid to "militarily rigid" (thanks to Zombie Simpsons for that quote!). Recognizing themselves (one fish made a reference to "My Leg!" being a running gag). Acting out of character. Becoming parodies of themselves. Trying too hard to follow running gags (especially Mr. Krabs being obsessed with money). Voices becoming more and more high-pitched and whiny. Plots which have no purpose but to keep the show going. I think it's safe to call this new series "Zombie Spongebob". -- Submitted By: () on October 30, 2012, 11:05 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I was reading a post on a "Hit or Miss" thread on an internet forum that pretty much sums up what I think. "Episodes before the movie: Mainly hit, Episodes after the movie: With a few exceptions, mainly miss" -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on March 10, 2011, 11:41 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
SpongeBob ran out of material towards the end of season three with awful episodes such as "I Had an Accident". Season four was brutal and so was season five. Season six was beyond words. Almost every episode in it focused on SB's strange behavior towards Squidward, characters getting their skin ripped off, Mr. Krabs obsessing over money, or a mentally insane SB and an even stupider Patrick torturing Squidward, getting off scot free in the end. Boned at season four, bar none. -- Submitted By: (EpicWinner) on March 9, 2011, 4:50 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I think Spongilla annoyingus has two things in common with the Simpsons, yellow and overrated. -- Submitted By: (jconifer7) on May 9, 2010, 2:19 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When the characters started to degenerate into their present forms is when the show boned. It turned into a kids' show rather than something everybody could appreciate. Incidentally, what's with all the new Plankton episodes? Do the writers just think the concept's so good that they require every second episode to revolve around it? -- Submitted By: (ElBlocko) on May 5, 2010, 7:17 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I can perfectly pinpoint it. The episode "Best Day Ever" After that, Spongebob became this overly excited sponge and his voice got more high and whiny. It got really annoying to watch. -- Submitted By: (Rape_Factory) on April 25, 2010, 1:24 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I want to make a comment about the merchandising reason/comments...RIGHT ON. Currently, at Burger King, there is YET ANOTHER Spongebob-based toyline. At the grocery store he's on all sorts of products, even a box of Cream of Wheat. Seriously, Cream of Wheat? He's now less a cartoon character and more a merchandising icon. What happened? -- Submitted By: (Robert) on April 13, 2010, 2:27 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Allow me to rephrase myself here. This show didn't bone/jump/nuke after the movie, IT SUCKED FROM DAY ONE!!! I already stated my piece about the uber-merchandising, the unnessecary celebrity guest-star plague, and how all the characters are uber-stereotyped, but now we get even MORE reasons. First off, the show OUTRAN RUGRATS!!! Seriously, go to Wikipedia and count how many cartoon got offed in this time (as well as how many merely in his wake)!!! Also, the show isn't really as original as you think. Where have we seen the whole dynamic duo plotline before? NUMEROUS TIMES IN ALMOST RAPID SUCCESSION? Finally, are you honestly telling me that a show with that sort of ploy, about a SPONGE, which you can get for 99 cents, is better than ANY AND ALL OTHER CARTOONS OUT THERE??? YOU CANNOT BE FREAKING SERIOUS. Yes, I am finished posting on here. -- Submitted By: (Idontlikefails) on February 15, 2010, 10:17 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Spongebob JTS somewhere around the latter half of season 3. Before that, the show was charming and funny. Then episodes like "The Sponge Who Could Fly", "The Camping Episode", and "Krabby Land" happened, which were just awful. They were obnoxious, annoying, and NOT charming or funny. Seasons 4 and up were just plain garbage. The show went from cute, charming, and funny to loud, obnoxious, hyperactive, and not funny. -- Submitted By: (TheFNG) on November 15, 2009, 12:15 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Previous comment quote: "Ever since the movie, the show itself has become a mere excuse for Nickelodeon to be able to air the same show every hour." I rest my case. -- Submitted By: (Idontlikefails) on October 26, 2009, 6:37 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
Spongebob was among the funniest shows of all time for me. Then around the middle of the third season, everything about it started to suck! There is literally nothing worth watching in the new episodes, and new episodes is all nick ever shows... -- Submitted By: (Drewdaford) on October 10, 2009, 11:14 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Honestly, I used to like the show, but now, it's just the kind of show that doesn't deserve it's popularity (seriously, you can make a Spongebob ANYTHING nowadays) and should've been canceled by now, but somehow still airs. Ever since the movie, the show itself has become a mere excuse for Nickelodeon to be able to air the same show every other hour. Spongebob is now a complete idiot (and is sounding worse than Fred of YouTube fame), Patrick's head is now completely EMPTY, Krabs now wouldn't throw out a penny TO SAVE HIS LIFE, and all other characters (Sandy, Squidward, etc.) have almost completely had their personalities enforced LIKE IT WAS THE LAW (basically following suit). Also, the show has fallen into the same "guest star" gimmick that plagues both Nick AND Disney to this day. Bottom line, if I wanted to watch any show similar to this, i'd watch Chowder or Flapjack. -- Submitted By: (Idontlikefails) on October 3, 2009, 2:10 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
After the movie it seems the characters just became exaggerated Spongebob went from humorously naive to an annoying hyperactive moron and Patrick became a retarded asshole. -- Submitted By: (TheAdamantiumElbow) on September 14, 2009, 8:18 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I, personally, have been a huge SpongeBob fan ever since I saw the episode "Chocolate with Nuts". However, I do admit that the latest episodes have been packed with SpongeBob screaming and becoming less intelligent, Patrick becoming even MORE stupid, and Mr. Krabs becoming stingier as time goes on. The pre-movie episodes are also better overall than the post-movie episodes. It just hasn't been the same since Stephen Hillenburg left. -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on August 1, 2009, 2:58 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
