Music Groups - Kiss
Kiss is an American rock band formed in New York City in December 1972. Easily identified by its members' trademark face paint and stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid and late-1970s on the basis of their elaborate live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, and pyrotechnics. Kiss has been awarded 24 gold albums to date. The band has sold over 19 million records in the United States and their worldwide sales exceed 85 million albums.

When I was a kid, i thought KISS stood for knights in satan's shack. I don't know why, I just did. LoL -- Submitted By: (Jp) on September 19, 2012, 10:35 pm - (1 votes)

Knights in Satan's Service...I've heard that alleged backronym, too. A friend of mine asks, if they really WERE in Satan's service, would they have played "God Gave Rock and Roll to You"? It can be heard over the credits of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. I admit, if someone unfamiliar with KISS heard that song, they could easily mistake it for a Christian Rock song. It's actually a cover of Argent's song, so it's officially called "God Gave Rock and Roll to You II". -- Submitted By: (Robert) on September 19, 2012, 2:26 pm - (1 votes)

I've always hated them and always will. I can remember born again radicals claiming "KISS" stood for "Knights In Satan's Service". Well, after listening to their music, I think it stands for "Keep It Simple Stupid", and they have done that in no uncertain terms. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on September 13, 2012, 3:56 pm - (1 votes)

Didn't they release 4 solo records at the same time, as if they were trying to quadruple their album sales? -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on December 8, 2011, 7:54 am - (1 votes)

I have to admit that the first time I ever saw Kiss on television on the In Concert show from the 1970's. I wasn't impressed. They were just another band wearing make up, a fad at the time that was wearing thin real fast, as every band and his brother had to try. I heard guys at school everyday and like you said with the exception of a few random moments, I still wasn't impressed. I listened to Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, Mahogany Rush...etc. I never did see how Kiss could be mentioned in the same breath as any of these and many others too numerous to mention. I still don't. From Day One... -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on August 14, 2011, 11:35 pm - (1 votes)

You know, I have enjoyed rock music for as long as I can remember, and throughout the 1970's I would hear guys at school just rave over how utterly awesome KISS was (even though, oddly enough, I NEVER heard any of their music on the radio). Finally, I befriended someone who had about every KISS album released (up to that point). He let me borrow a few when I demonstrated little knowledge of their catalog. I was very underwhelmed by whatI heard (with an isolated exception or two). -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on August 14, 2011, 10:45 pm - (1 votes)

PYLrulz,
Your comments made me laugh! I mean, I can recall my elder sibs listening to KISS but it's funny thinking of folks old enough to be parents of adults STILL fans of the group! LOL
I guess it shows how many generations this Forum covers. I mean, my mother STILL is a fan of Big Band and classic jazz but, no she doesn't dress up like Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore or Lena Horne did in the 1940's despite liking their songs!
For me, KISS is a take-or-leave deal but I have to admit getting a bit weary of seeing what else they can sell their logo for $$$. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on August 13, 2011, 12:28 pm - (1 votes)

Kiss is tolerable to listen to if there is absolutley nothing else to listen to. Sadly, my parents are big Kiss fans, though thankfully, they don't go to the point of dressing up like Gene Simmons or Ace Frehley or Paul Stanley when they go to the concerts or such like some of those nuts -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on August 12, 2011, 5:50 pm - (1 votes)

Kingbk I'm sorry that you're subjected to listening to KISS once or twice a year. To me, that would be hell. -- Submitted By: (Jp) on August 11, 2011, 5:13 pm - (2 votes)

Detroit trashy "shock rock" at its worst. The only songs I can tolerate are "Rock and Roll All Night" and "Calling Dr. Love" and that means listen to them once or twice a year. All their other songs are terrible, especially the super cheesy "God gave rock and roll to you." Way to get the bible belters on your side, guys! Day one. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 11, 2011, 2:09 am - (1 votes)

Bah. When did Kiss not bone? I've always reffered to them as merchandising whores. Then there's Gene. I remember reading an article that claimed that he doesn't (or didn't at the time, anyway) believe women could play instruments and had treated a female aspiring bass player like dirt. Paul Stanley gives me the creeps; there's something so feminine about his look at the same time that he's trying to be macho sexy. *shudders* Plus they abused my name in a song. I've got nothing good to say. -- Submitted By: (ReginaPhalange) on March 20, 2010, 5:52 pm - (1 votes)

Sure, their concerts are great, but how many times have they had "farewell tours", or had some extremely long "farewell tour"?!? And the stuff they plaster their image on? Guess when you got a hardcore loyal following, you can get away with that. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 16, 2009, 5:14 am - (1 votes)

Jon_Dohnson is right! The first timer I saw them without the makeup I thought, "Chicks the world over let THESE guys bone them?" Maybe they kept the makeup on for the whole thing (winks). -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 19, 2009, 10:35 pm - (1 votes)

When the makeup came off.
They went from iconic to just another group of ugly misfits making music in the 80's. -- Submitted By: (Jon_Dohnson) on May 12, 2009, 2:13 pm - (1 votes)

Boned when Frehley and Criss were replaced with two impersonators following the so-called "farewell" tour. They should either have hung it up for good or gone in a new direction after that.
A new album is supposedly in the works with the current line-up, but it may be too little too late. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on April 29, 2009, 2:05 pm - (1 votes)

I think they really boned the fish when they did the disco sounding "I was made for loving you" song. They came close when they took the makeup off, then put it back on again, but I guess they had to do something to shake things up a bit. Departing from your rock roots in an attempt to cash in on the disco craze is most definitely boning the fish big time. They even had hush puppies and cole slaw to boot. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on April 27, 2009, 3:40 am - (1 votes)
